He posted what he thought was correct so that is "not making shit up" it is simply being incorrect if that was infact the case

His post contained an apology if he was incorrect but you couldn't accept that position so accused him of "making shit up".

Then you throw up "retract" as more diversion.

He didn't need to retract if he was incorrect as he had already covered the contingency if he was wrong.
