The Third Way

I am a fan of the feeder club agreement but I lament the loss of some games to Shark Park. I would like to have as many games in the district as possible.

With that in mind I think that all JBC games that are not part of a double header should go to Tempe Reserve. All you need is to hire some fencing to enclose one field (not difficult). The sheds at Tempe are better than Henson and certainly compare favourably with other JBC grounds. Also, it will get the few supporters that do go to these games to go back to the Jets Sports Club.

Tempe has suitable parking and public transport as well as being in the district and close to our club.

I have discussed this with some esteemed Newtown personalities and they like the idea. what does everyone else think?

Good lateral thinking, Jeffles. What does the fencing cost?

Have you found any firms that would rent, assemble and then remove the fencing?

Also, if you could tie it up with a Junior Jets A grade match or a UTS game, so much the better.

Great idea Jeffles. Might get a few people over from the club who wouldn't normally go to see the footy. Do we need fencing??

Yet another quality post Jeffles. Anything to keep Newtown in the district and not playing games in the Shire has to be a step forward.

The JBC boys can still play at NRL grounds when they play Ryde Eastwood or if they crack it for PL.

Not sure about fencing costs but heard from a bloke at the Easter Show (who specialised in it) that it is cheap.

The Council could put a permanent low fence in like they have at Mackey Park (home of Marrickville soccer club). But that's wishful thinking.

But Jeffles, as we know, there isn't any votes in Rugby League for the Greens. Now if it's Yoga or a Pilates field that needs fencing off, then we've got the right people in charge of Marrickville council!

I certainly like that idea. Being involved in coachiong this year on Saturday's has robbed me of my Henson Park Hotel and Henson Park Saturday's. But alas the season finished last Saturday so we are back.

As for the fencing possibly contact a TAFE (Ultimo does it) and see if some of the students would install it for a bit of work experience. The teacher might be able to get the fencing cheaper also. It can be free advertising for the TAFE also.

While suggestions generally lead to progress, I do not agree with your suggestion.

Anybody who has travelled to some of the unfenced cow paddocks that other JBC clubs play on will agree that Henson Park is the place for Jim Beam Cup games.

No seating, no elevation from the game no facilities for officials, video or ground announcer.

I thought the idea of the Jets having a Jim Beam Cup was to attract people to play at the club that can fill the void in Premier League.

I'm sorry that I always seem to disagree with you Jeffles but by sending games to Tempe, regardless of the fence is sending the Jim Beam team back to the dark ages.

JBC is a tier above junior league and should be treated that way by making facilities as good as possible.

For a club with limited financial resources, to pay players, a decent ground is the least that the club can do for the JBC team.

I have played at both grounds this year, and I can tell you I much prefer Tempe. Having said that It wouldn't be the same not having Newtown at Henson.

Good to hear from you again Fred. I trust Wilma and Pebbles are well.

I made the suggestion considering a number of things.

1) The lower turnout at Henson for stand alone JBC games.

2) The possibility of such games going to Shark Park.

3) The relative superiority in some respects of the amenities at Tempe compared to Henson.

4) The proximity of Tempe to the Jets Sports Club.

I made the suggestion knowing full well the standard of many Jim Beam Cup grounds. Take away the lack of tiered seating, Tempe stacks up very well against the grounds. Ringrose and Erina come to mind. Their shabby steel bleachers and scoreboard are the only things separating those grounds from Tempe. And it isa hardly unworkable to get such things at Tempe.

I think the only criterion there is on JBC grounds is that it is enclosed. That is an acheiveable thing.
