The Tim Smith Situation

I for one am not going to expect anything from Finchy except pass, kick and run. Thats it. My theory on Brett Finch is he plays well when he has little or no pressure on him.

He had no pressure on him in 98, 99 and 2000 when he had Daley next to him and he played well, he did struggle in 01 and 02 but still managed to score alot of tries. He did great in 03 and 04 (Dally M halfback of the year) at the Roosters with Fittler next to him but struggled with out him. He should have a more then capable Mateo next to him this time, only problem is, Mateo is not an organising player, Fittler and Daley were.

Lets just see how he goes.

No one expected him to do well in Origin, he just went in there and did what ever, and he was man of the match. Game 2, he struggled, badly.

To be fair to Finch, I think any half back would have struggled at the Roosters the year after Fittler retired. For years the Rooster's game plan had been structured around playing the way Fittler wanted to play. After he retired, the was always going to be a period where the team would struggle, trying to find a new playing style.

I don't think Ricky Stuart trying to turn him into the new Fittler helped either. Not only had they then lost their 5/8, they then also had a 1/2 trying to play someone else's game, rather than his own.

Pete is the man for quotes:

Who was the losing American football coach, when asked "What do you think of your team's execution" replied "It's probably a good idea?".

It seems the bookies agree. Since the time Smith affair, Parra has firmed as equal second favorites to the title with the Sea Eagles - $8.50 from Centrebet.

I thought we were second favourites anyway before the whole smith thing.

I hope im wrong but Finch is not creative and i think we will really struggle with him. Bring in one of the younger kids i say.

This is the problem with paying outside backs hidious amounts of $$.

Hayne must play 5/8 for us to be a contender.

I'm not worried about Finchy what so ever. He was close to our best in both attack and defence last year and if that form stays true I will be more than happy.

I've always been of the opinion to play your best attacking weapons in the most important positions. Kris Inu, Jarryd Hayne, Piggy, Mateo & T Smith need to cover 1,6,7,9.

Finch's first try assist was around round 10 so I would say he was our best. Defensively, he tried, hustled and showed alot of determination.

Inu is not a fullback at this stage of his career.

We have three blokes at least in the squad who are better fullbacks than him.

Capable of is a big difference to meaning he should play there.

He did well for new Zealand because he is a freak, not because he is a fullback.

His defensive positioning was a nightmare, and really his involvement in attack wasn;t high enough.

We will get heaps more out of him in the centres and Burt at 1. Same with Hayne and Reddy.

I can think of Hayne, but thats about it.
On talent, no one comes close to Inu exept Hayne.
Burt deserves another crack seeing he's played beyond his capabilities over the last 18mths. I don't know who the other 2 blokes are. I hope your not talking Reddy up

What's wrong with Burt at fullback? He was near on the form fullback in the competition until he got injured.
