  • How I Met Your Mother
  • The Simpsons
  • Futurama (original series run 1999-2003)
  • Seinfeld

Not going to bother with worst, there are so many of them!
Edit:

I'd actually like to nominate one for worst:

Some quality shows being mentioned in here (and some absolute dreck as well).
This is one I'll have to think about - to pick the best comedies and narrow them down to just 10 is a difficult task.

So you're the one.
Yeah, well I was sick of hearing everyone saying my favorite shows are their worst and AD being their best... so hey, fair's fair! Besides ratings speak for themselves, if AD was really good, then it would've lasted more than 3 seasons!

Ratings don't mean shit when judging which shows are superior, they're a small sample size taken from stupid Americans. The fact the ratings made Two And a Half Men the highest rated comedy for the past 10 years based on practically one joke says it all. Community and Arrested Development are two of the most critically acclaimed comedies in the last decade and both had bad ratings.

Besides, it may have taken a while, but Arrested Development is going to last more than 3 seasons :).

Anyway my top 10 best:

1. The Simpsons
2. Arrested Development
3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
4. Scrubs
5. Friends
6. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
7. The Office (both)
8. Community
9. Parks And Recreation
10. Louie

Doing a worst list is a bit harder because there's so many terrible shows that didn't last very long. I'll just do a top 5 and try and include ones that have lasted at least a while....

1. Two And A Half Men
2. Hot In Cleveland
3. Everybody Loves Raymond
4. Glee
5. Kath And Kim

How can you put both of the office versions at the same level?

There are absolute light years between them

Basically I cheated so I could get another show in the list :p. I frequently find myself defending the US version, I realise they're very different shows but The Office US managed to become it's own show after a season or two and shed 'the cheap knock-off tag.' A very rare occurrence for an American TV remake admittedly.

Friends cops a lot of stick but as far as traditional American sitcoms go they nailed the genre with Friends IMO. I thought it was mostly well-written and the repeats always stand up well for me no matter how much time passes. Can't really explain it much further apart from saying it's a personal preference I guess.

Can't believe I left Father Ted off my list.

8 Simple Rules cops a bit of unfair criticism, it's definitely not one of the best, but it's by means one of the worst imo. To each their own I guess.

Small sample taken from stupid Americans? So the millions or Americans that watch the show don't speak wonders over the choice of a few critics? Nice one!

Arrested Development was put up against Monday Night NFL. That's why its ratings weren't great.

IMDB:
Arrested Development: 9.2 (122,000 votes)
Two and a Half Men: 7.0 (87,000 votes)

Metacritic:
Arrested Development: 9.4 user score
Two and a Half Men: 67 critic score, 6.1 user score

And then compare the accolades that each show has been given. Arrested Development winning 7 Emmys over three years with one for Outstanding Comedy series.

Honestly, your arguments are like saying Titanic is the greatest movie ever made and The Shawshank Redemption is shit because it failed at the box office.

It would be very tough to find a lot of people who actively hate Arrested Development like they hate Two and a Half Men.

Not liking all the Frasier hate I must admit. "Ham Radio" might just be the greatest half hour of television in history.
