We'll have to see how he bounces back from his injury. Before he was injured IMHO he was the most destructive runner of the ball in the game. If he can regain that form I'd say he'd be worth 400-500k.

THe poll doesn't go low enough for mine Sparrow. I think if the offer is taken and he comes to the club it will be to the sharks club as a wholes detriment. i put $350K cause that's the lowest, but I believe him to be worth $280K-$320K per season. He is unreliable, hot and cold form wise, a second rower not a prop forward, an impact player who plays his best off the bench, is injury prone and untested after a serious foot injury, has a history of being an unsteady influence on team mates and his club.

Many of those things a club can accept and work with and improve on for the benefit of the player and our club, however they don't pay $400K plus a year for those type of players.

The hype around willie is over done and I know many players currently at the club feel that way too. He doesn't play 4 times better than our other props.

To put the kind of money into perspective, Andrew Johns was offered $450K a year to play union, which was considered huge money.

$300,000-$350,000 tops..
From what i have heard though, the money that we will be paying him if we get him will be a long way over that, which i think is too much..
Would be good to get him though..

The players have actually been well consulted about Willie and although overall they want him to be a Shark there could be a problem with a new development.

Don't forget to consider the other values of Willie. He's a crowd puller and a human headline both of which can generate a bit of cash.

.

But he has the potential to.

He is a gamble that could pay huge dividends.

We've got nothing to lose.

Give it to him and see whats happens.

450k without question is a good deal.

He is the type of player a soft club like us need. Willie, Nuts, Bails, Gall and maybe Stevo now tell me what young forward would dog it with those boys yelling in the back ground?

Forget about off the field. Mason when fit is one of the first forwards picked for NSW and Australia. That comes at a price. He is the best impact forward in the NRL and with Hindmarsh he is up there as the best 2nd rower. Our pack has enough workers we need a injection of a big hard running off loader... Kinda like Lomu should of been.

There isn't time to do that unfortunately. Only a week till June 30. It's open slather then and he'll be signed by someone well before he gets back on the paddock.

From what he has done in the past he could also turn some of the crowd away.. I'm not saying i wouldn't go because of him because i would like him at the club for his playing ability.. But there are the few around that generally don't like the guy for his personality and his past, and he will turn them away..
Remember if he does just one little thing wrong we will be in the news for all the wrong reasons, something we have managed to stay out of in the past..

Geesus!! Talk about blowing ya bolt...

Why would you pay 450k for a potential injury prone player? Maybe if you could get him under the priviso that he won't be an injury hazard but for 450k off the bat you can have him.

Soft club?? <<<< This is a gee up for sure!!

Whatever were paying Stevo now is what i think we should be paying Mason. As said in an earlier post, we have alot of workhorses and not much punch (With the exception of Hutch and Sully) in the forwards. It would be nice to have a forward pack looking like this:

8. Mason / Maiava
9. Hilder / Sullivan
10. Nutley
11. Williams
12. Bailey
13. Gallen

GOt nothing to lose ? what part of $450K is NOTHING mate ????

If the big lump does his foot again round 1 next year and sits out, we've lost that much just in one year.

Don't get me wrong guys, I agre totally that he is the TYPE of player we need, tackle busting backrower with speed and ball skills, and I agree that at his peak he is world class in that role.

but that peak is past and he needs to get over a bad injury to get back to the peak, it will take time, along with those other issues I raised, I just don't see him being worth the type of money we are offering, too big a risk.

I also query his merits as a crowd puller or money spinner, I can think of plenty of other players i'd rather spend more sponorship dollars on than Mason, and I know lotsa mums with kids who can't stand the bloke.

He's only 24 or 25. Hes still got 8 or so years left in him and will continue to get better mentally as he gains more experience. How much did we sign Stevo for when he joined us??? Although he has mental lapses every now and then he is a huge influence on the club right now. I see Mason continuing this in years to come IF he signs with us...
