If JT coming here would guarantee a premiership then I guess I'd be for it. It would just be a little bittersweet.
Best comment in the whole thread. Bittersweet is right.
Yeah we
might win, but at what price? And I'm not talking about money, but our values. The funny thing is that a lot of the people who cry foul about the lack of loyalty and values in the game are the same ones that demand their team win or else. (And I'm definitely not pointing a finger at anyone here, I'm just talking about league in general, and even in all other sports too).
We as Parra fans always curse when Manly or someone steal one of our players, yet now we will just drop everything for a chance to (potentially) buy a comp? We've waited too long to win the Premiership to now try and do it like some other team. We can wait as long as it takes, and win the way Parra should win - with a bunch of Parra juniors surrounded by some blokes that came as youngsters and have been here for their whole career, with a smattering of fresh faces, all playing attractive, attacking footy.
At Parra we've been proud of our history of producing juniors, or taking a kid from the country and keeping him for life. And now we want to buy arguably the best player in the world to guide us to the comp, despite the inherent dangers regarding his attitude and cost?!
Well I, for one, am not interested. I don't want to grudgingly cheer for some guy just because he came for the dollars.
I want to love my team when they win the comp. I want to feel that they represent me and my footy club. I want to cheer for our juniors, and the players that came here as kids and stayed and built a culture of loyalty, and the guy that took a pay cut to come back to the code and club that he loves and lives near, and yes, even the kid whose dad was a Dog, because he chose us for what the club represents. I want to look back on our Premiership win in 10 years time and feel proud about the way that we won, and who we won with.
How good will it be when OUR BOYS win the comp?! When Burt and Hindy and Inu and Hayne and Caylo are holding the trophy, and we are cheering knowing that we didn't become Manly, or the Roosters, but that we did it OUR WAY? HOW BLOODY GOOD WILL IT BE??
Its not cause he's a QLDer (Id take Prince in a heartbeat), its a combination of what I see & hear on and off the field.
Yeah me too. I just put the QLD bit in for a bit of fun.
