This is true.
In fact the game before his 'nightmare' he was close to the best player on the ground.
But that 'nightmare' was just so incredibly bad, it's hard to shake it off.

Was it that bad though? He had a major brain explosion when he kicked ahead with minutes to go but what else did he do in that game that was so bad. If anything we are talking about 10 minutes maybe.

The kick that he supposedly took dead was a wrong call by Harrigan so he was not actually that bad.

Should be called the Steve Mavin award. Now THAT was a shocker !

He also caught a highball that he didn't need to and got drilled over the sideline, deep in the Eels half. Then caught a ball off a kick that was going out on the full and ran it over the sideline himself.

Watching the 1991 Norths V Penrith semi. The replacement fullback for Penrith Anthony Zurich? Yuck!

Anthony Xeureb. His career never recovered, ending up as fullback for St Marys in the Metropolitan Cup for some years. He did get a 1991 premiership ring without even taking the field, Gould only using two of his bench in the GF.

His side did win, however. I'd have thought the award was more deserved by Daryl Halligan, the goal kicking maestro who landed 1 from 5 whereas Greg Alexander landed 4 from 5. THAT was the winning and losing of the match.

Fair call on Halligan, he did stink it up with the boot. But watching Xeureb instantly brought me here though. Poor merkin

Yeah - But I still think it should be the Steve Mavin thread. 3 errors in the first 15 minutes which cost 3 tries - game over, and he was replaced before halftime. When has a winger ever been replaced!

ray thompson over a full 80 minutes, every last tackle play from him was rubbish, players in space doesn't pass, players with 3 defenders in front of them, immediate hospital ball, finally finds some space up the middle and immediately slips over. Was like watching a very tanned josh mcCrone
