The weekly Paul Carige award

Wighton would be pushing Benchi for most noms this year I'd reckon. Lee's hands make the Burgi's look safe but Wighton may have still pipped him for the sin bin and the drop out.

No way wighton is in contention here. Yeah he got sin binned but most fullbacks would have rode the line there. Its also why there is so much wrestle in the game because players do have to start to move after.00000001 of a second after a legs tacke. I was wishing for that rule danish proposed where a good one on one tackle gets 10 seconds to clear the ruck last night i can tell you that lol

Yeah not just letting the ball roll and letting what happens happens was silly

But edrick lee bombed about 4 tries and that's a special game in the carige cup

To me the spirit of the Carige award comes down to decision making. Specifically players doing dumb shit to lose games. Wighton had a couple of Carige-esque moments. Lee just can't catch. That's just the Burgess brothers hands like feet award.

Wighton. 15 other fullbacks in the comp would've been smart enough to know letting the ball roll out was the only play he could make at that time in the game. Jack was too busy trying to get his arms and legs to work in unison to be able to make any other decision at that time.

Lee - just when you thought he couldn't get worse... he comes up with that

Wighton's moment was poor, but habit - in a sudden death game he had to gamble, 99 times out of 100 that's the right move - poor situational awareness I guess - but Lee, OMG

But JJ, we watch that from Maumalo on a weekly basis? Aren't you desensitised to it?

I just can't believe Wighton is that dumb. Makes Anthony Watmough look like Alan Turing.

Wighton giving away the dropout pretty much emulated Carige catching the ball and taking it out over the sideline. Making a bizarre, irrational decision under pressure is the true essence of Carige. The sin-bin was pretty dumb but a lot of the time that is just a penalty, so it was more of a roll of the dice.

I think you're a bit blind about wighton. I agree with penrose that no other fb would've done that particularly in a final. It wasn't even a close thing and it wasn't necessary. He did the same against the Sharks which let us square up the scores.

I blame Stuart and Croker partly. They should have had a strong edict not to give away dumb penalties in their territory. The fact that Hodgson also gave a cheap one away suggests a vacuum of leadership.

Lmao every fullback in the comp would have done it.
