I've been thinking recently about wrestler's entrance music and the role that it can play in really getting wrestlers over.

What is some of your favourite music?

Try to detach it if you can from your favourite wrestler. Think about the music itself and it's suitability to the gimmick, I guess.

Some of my favourites-

The Bushwhackers. I mean, as wrestlers, they were pretty awful (and, as a Kiwi, embarrassing) but they were OVER and that music had to be a big part of it.

Slick. Jive Soul Bro. Dope as hell.

Razor Ramon. Badass

Bret Hart. So little in terms of energy, compensated brilliantly by Jimmy Hart's genius. (By the way, it's amazing how much of a hand Jimmy Hart had in the music)

Stone Cold's Attitude Era music was perfect, as was Goldust's and Kurt Angle's

What do you think?

100%

I think the current ones like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Joe Hendry have all been successful. Seems crowd interaction is the way to go.

Edges Metalingus is just iconic.

Moving on to yester-year. Austins glass shatting, Kane, the Wolfpack, Nation of Domination. Seems most of the major factions had brilliant themess (DX, nWo, N.O.D, Wolfpack) had good ones. Goldbergs entrance!

Randy Savage in the early 90s. DDP. The Rock

The 90s just seemed to knock them out the park honestly

Can't have this conversation without Hulk Hogan. That popularised entrance music and was a huge part of his success

4 horsemen - Both the 1996/7 and 1998/9 version. Fit the gimmick perfectly

Undertaker - The best gimmick of all time and the various iterations fit perfectly. My personal favourite was the late 1998 one. That might be the best entrance theme of all time

The rock's current final boss theme is pure poetry

Real American was pure class, his nWo Hollywood Hogan entrance was also a thing of beauty for it's time.

Good shout on the 4 horsemen too!

Regarding Taker, are you refering to the ministry taker?

Another around that time, or a year or two later was Triple H with the My Time theme. Preferred that over The Game or King of Kings music honestly

I guess the battle here is to seperate the music from the performer. To what extent was the music influential in making the performer and vice versa. I mean, the Hogan guitar riff (both Real American and Hollywood) was iconic, for sure

No not quite the ministry one, I'm referring to the one before that but it is similar.

Just sensational IMO

Special mention to Ricky The Dragon Steamboat using the truly awesome Sirius by The Alan Parsons Project ( which has also been used by The Chicago Bulls)

Crow Sting, specifically the full entrance for Starrcade 1997 was perfection. Shame it went downhill when the bell rang.

To me an iconic theme needs a distinct opening note/sound then something that gives you an idea of what the wrestler is all about. My personal top 10 are (in no order)

Mark Henry
Austin
Gunther (NXT)
Roman (tribal chief)
Edge
Undertaker
Cena (basic thugonomics)
Judgement Day
Rhea Ripley
Iyo Sky
