I am almost 100% certain that only young Carmichael Hunt stood between Simmo and a spot in the Aussie schoolboys team, although someone might want to confirm that...

He sounds very impressive thanks for the info everyone, from what you said about being able to spot the gaps on kick returns sounds alot like what Matt Rogers was able to do and do very well.

Jason Williams is Back I will have to get there early to watch PL this week.

Simmo has some weird ability to be travelling at a slow speed, putting on a seemingly innocuous step and just effortlessly gliding through the tiniest of holes

I think the thing most in Simmo's favour is that the media haven't latched onto him. Carmichael Hunt, Benji Marshall and Sonny Bill Williams are all touted as potential superstars... which comes with a lot of baggage.

Simmo, in my opinion, is up there amongst those lot - but doesn't have the pressure associated with it.

That looks like a pretty good team to me. Nice to see Bails named in the backrow again - I thought that day'd never bloody come!

Good also to see Simmons get a run instead of Saleh. It's great to see that Stuey isn't afraid to try out new stuff so early in the season. Particularly if it pays off. :D

Gee our forwards look strong too. They really do.

I have seen a fair bit of him in PL and he does look impressive. I hope he can step up I really do. It is a big step though and it is one that others fail to make. I wonder why he wasn't in our 25.

Simmo sounds like a very promising player for us, but to get a bigger picture of him and his ability, does he have any weaknesses or parts of his game that he might need to work on (apart from first grade experience which will come in time).

I'm not being negative, but was interested to know what you all think?

With promotions to 1st grade like Dave Simmons it surely gives Premier League players hope of call ups for good performances. Alternately it gives 1st graders wake up calls that they have to perform on a consistent basis.

I think Stuart Raper was looking to replace Merritts flair and unpredictability. He's ideal for those grubbers into the ingoal with his quick turn of speed that was evident in last weeks Premier League game. :D

I'd say defensively he's probably a bit underdone. Not in his tackling, more positional. He was found out last year when he played in the centres in first grade, I recall.

He should be alright on the wing though.

Great to Simmonds get a chance - can't wait to see him play. Hope you guys are right about his ability.

I had hoped that Isemenger may have given way to another young forward as well. Must be on his last chance.

Fingers crossed. I've just about had it with that bloke.

Coach Stuart Raper decided against including star signing Nigel Vagana for Saturday night's game against Manly. Vagana is due back from a shoulder injury and will see a specialist today; he could be a late inclusion. David Simmons, 22, comes onto the wing for the injured Nathan Merritt. Prop Danny Nutley has escaped suspension.

Simmo's aged more rapidly than I thought...

I'm surprised Saleh wasn't named on the wing in place of Merrit, but I'm happy with Simmons getting the spot. I hope he has a good game.
Good to see Baily back in the 2nd row too

I am confident we will have our first win this weekend

I'm looking forward to seeing Simmons run around.
Heard a bit about him, but missed it all de to being in the UK the last couple of years.

The only thing I have seen is a photo on Garbo's old site a couple of years ago of Simmo, stranded out on the wing in Flegg, under the caption "Simmo Gets Involved". Quality stuff...

According to Russ Aitken, on our official forum a couple of years back, Simmo was extremely unlucky not to make the Aus schoolboys side of 2002. I recall he scored a hatrick in one game for Combined high schools in the national schoolboy championships, so he can't have been far off. I'm not sure if Hunt was the fullback, as Hunt was in last years Aus schoolboys, so not sure if he was in 2002 as well. But Simmo has left many of the 2002 schoolboys for dead, such as our own Steve Ross who is stuck in Flegg, Pelo in PL, and the likes of Albert Hopoate and Jermaine Ale, also outside backs, stuck in Flegg at the Roosters.

I'd say he wasn't named in the top 25, as he was still recovering from his shoulder injury, and Raper had never seen him play. He's going to be Peachey's long term successer. I applaud raper for picking him ahead of Saleh. I think if you look at my predictions for 2004, I predicted Simmons would finhish the season on the wing.
