..............the more they stay the same.
Walsh is a classic example, he ditched them then they bent over backwards to resign him. If they are so rapt in Mariner they had no reason to sign Walsh and could have utilised Cobbo or Farnworth at fullback.
Piakura is the example that comes to mind. They did the 'right' thing and let Walsh go only to turn around and reportedly offer $400,000 p.a. to an unproven talent.
I actually think the Reece Walsh situation worked out quite well. The Broncos stuck to their guns and it was Walsh who turned around and asked if he could return. They reportedly signed him on a modest contract and he was more equipped than their other options.
We'll have to wait and see how the other shoe drops, but I prefer how that situation panned out over what's happened with Piakura.
Must be making room for David Fifita to come back.
Ikin was a huge fan as well and was highly critical of the way Brisbane lost him and Reece Walsh.
Like Walsh, Fifita still spends a lot of time socialising with the players.
When the move was suggested last year, Ikin denied any interest and threw his support behind Capewell, Riki, Piakura and Robati. Following Robati's release there's an opening in the squad and Riki could move to the front row to accomodate Fifita.
I'm not sure if it's a wise move for the club but there's cause that a move could be made.
It'll likely come down to money. How much are the Broncos willing to offer and how much David is willing to sacrifice. As far as I know, he's being offered deals around 900K p.a. I couldn't see the Broncos going above $800K p.a.
