Thoughts on Benji so far

Not the try scorer he once was, but he can still find a gap.

He can also be f**king awful as well. See Titans game. He's the ultimate rocks & diamonds player, & it's not ever gonna change. It's just who he is.

Overall, I'm glad we signed him. It was hard at first, because Channel 9 made me dislike him, as they were always kissing his arse & glossing over his mistakes. tbh, he still looks weird in a Red V. Something I never thought I'd see.

I actually think the media took great pleasure in crucifying him til he came out and said he is not the player he used to be. I actually think he is better in some ways or maybe I'm just used No.7s that don't create opportunities. He's been very committed in defense as well

Rocks and diamonds so far, but definitely an upgrade on any half we have had for a while

I'll be honest, now I know that Reynolds is unsettled at Souths I'd prefer us to have the cap space to be bidding for him.

Really, Marshall's only got to be good enough to let Widdop shine. But we're stuck with him for three years at his age and fitness. Still not convinced. Come on Benji, rip holes in Manly, carry us to the top four with your trickery and make me look like a clown.

I love our halves pairing.. Wouldn't trade them for any others.

Agreed. 2 class halves.

I was pretty optimistic about his signing. I'm glad it is starting to pay off. He is obviously still finding his feet but what I like is that he has pulled back a little in the last couple of games and isn't attempting to score from every play.

Compared to earlier in his career and even his last couple of seasons at the Tigers, he seems to have bulked up a little. He's using his size to push through the line on occasion as well.

It seems to me he is timing his input into the attack alot better and allowing Gareth to pick up the control a bit more.

I think this combo is going to work well over the next couple of years.

I think we need to remember where we were a few months back.

Many of us on here were arguing whether we should be playing Williams or Witt. And last year we had Fien and Stanley as our halves!

Now we have Widdop and Benji which just amazes me given where we have come from.

Clearly Benji is not the player he used to be, but quality halves are hard to come by...I mean Hodkinson and Reynolds are the Origin halves and neither of them are anything special.

Benji and Widdop may end up being one of the better halves combinations in the comp....credit to Doust for making it happen.

I'd go with a big fat NO to Reynolds. Would command a lot of money and I dont at all think he is worth it!

Marshall is finding his rhythm alongside Widdop, buti1 reckon he may only half 2-3 good years left. However, we have some young halves that SHOULD be ready to burst onto the scene in the next 3 years in Hutchinson, Crook, Clune or even Dufty. I imagine that at least 1 of them will get the learning and experience from Marshall and be ready to take over from him soon enough.

Agree with you Benny.

Renyolds is a good player, but too me he seems to go missing in big games. Except for the finals against the dogs a couple years back was one of his great games until He got injured, besides that I really havent seen him step up as much as the hype was about him. I could be wrong.

I think Atleast one of these young halves coming up should be allowed to train with the big boys so we don't see ourselves searching for a half when benjis contract is up. Is that allowed to happen or are there strict guidelines????

We got Widdop, then The Duges then the superstar Benji Marshall, then........then....we sack Price.
Cloud F***ing Nine gentlemen.

What next....Doust miraculously pulls a big bopper forward out of his arse and we make the finals......

Going great and we have not had a game breaker like Benji for a long time. A player like Benji will make a few errors a game because he is that sort of player that demands the ball. He is trying things that other players cant and when they stick we win... I WOULD RATHER Benji in my team trying things and winning more games than loosing than have a make shift half like Fein was and loosing more games than winning.............. He will get better as he and Widdop start to know each others play......

Luke Keary shits all over Reynolds ATM. IMO, Reynolds has never been able to match his 2012 form; he needs to be more dynamic and threaten the line more...

Apparently he does this every morning after a big night on the crownies...

He's doing his job well now and settling into the team.

Will only improve as our march to the GF continues.
