Throwing the ball at an opponents head

It makes me laugh.

Funniest one I ever saw was when a souffs guy threw it at Aubussons head and it came back and hit him in the head.

We the fans do not want to be robbed of such joyous moments.

The only reason it happens is because they sin-binned the punch. Players are always one step ahead of the rules.

Eventually this will become a sin-bin offence and they'll realise that they can squirt water (not throwing the bottle, that's been tried) on the opposition and get away with it. Then squirting will become a sin-bin offence and they'll find some other ridiculous way to niggle the opposition.

Long story short - let them throw a punch and all this niggly crap (slaps/throwing the ball) will disappear in a hurry.

So John Hopoate was a man ahead of his time, a visionary if you will.

I realise that this will never happen (nor should it), however I wonder if G1 would have thrown the ball at Thompson's head if he knew JT could have landed one on his chin.

I'm guessing not a chance in hell he'd have thrown the ball.

With just about everything banned, players are really limited in how they can express their frustration.

If they start sin binning for throwing the ball at someone's head, they'll have nothing left but to start writing each other stern letters after the game.

Also, Josh McCrone's entire dummy half passing game will have been outlawed.

Inglis doesn't get penalised.

He's a protected species.

Thompson I think it was lead in with the knees and if he connected properly would have knocked GI out. You just can't lead in with the knees.

I understand GI's frustration.

All teams are trying to take him out.

If that was any of us in his position we'd throw the ball too.

This week the Dogs will be trying to knock him out too plus going for his knee.

I'm sure GI has had enough of the officiating.

Lol

Just speechless after reading that

Well I watched that incident and that's what happened.

That's why GI threw the ball at Thompson.

What would you say if it left GI unconscious.

Thompson would get suspended as you can't lead in with the knees. Just like a player scoring a try and the guy trying to stop it leads in with the knees it can be a penalty try. If the players scoring got knocked out well then the other guy would be suspended.

Its no different when a player is trying to get out of his own in goal. If GI was knocked out, as I said then Thompson would be suspended.

the no punch rule will never be reversed. It's comical that yobos continue to call for it though

The thing is - and ive said this before - make a rule for sin-binning punching was really kind of a non-event. It's miraculous that it worked so well in eliminating it.

Because throwing a punch/fighting, for as long as I remember, was already a more than half chance at a sin-bin. It's crazy that Gallen wasn't binned in that Origin game - maybe there was a period of a few years where things got a bit too lax. But go back a little further to the 90s and even early 2000s, and players were binned almost every game (obviously trailing off in the 2000s).

So the rule "change" maybe made it go from 80% likely to 100% likely you'd be in the bin for punching someone.

The real killer of the biff has been coaches. They simply do not want to risk being down a player and must have cracked down hard on their teams.

But there's a way to bring it back (sort of) without allowing it. If the sin-bin and send-off were actually used for careless or violent play, as intended, then playing 12 on 13 or 12 on 12 becomes a more common occurrence and we see less uptightness about putting one one someones chin who well and truly deserves it. Oh, and the added bonus of periods where the field is slightly more open so some extra attack.
