Thuga's Thoughts - Round 6 vs Warriors

The new grandstand, the possible return of the 2004 Dally M winner Danny Buderus and playing in our new home jerseys may equal a first 2005 win for our boys.

After 4 games of pure tourcher for the supoprters of the Newcastle Knights, this could be the game that we really come in to our own.

* Round 1 against the Storm we got blew of the park early and never was able to recover. Eventually to be given a big thrashing in our first hit out.

*Round 2 against Raiders was just a bad night. Injury to Johns, M Gidley having brain explosions in the 5/8 position and the Raiders just killing us in the fowards was just a hard night for the novacastrions.

* Round 4 against the Cowboys we hung in the game for 30 or so minuted before the class of the cowboys came into play. There razzle dazzle play was to much for our boys to take and we got 50 put on us just like that.

*Round 5 against Souths was horrible. The one game we really should of won and we got taken out by another wooden spoon contender. The Souths team made us look like we were under 9's, and we also made our selves look like under 9's. Even though Johns looked good for little pieces of the match, still wasn't good enough to at least be competitive in the game.

Lets hope round 6 will be a more positive outcome.

Thuga's Key Match up's

Andrew Johns vs Stacy Jones

Obviously the battle of the halfbacks is going to have a huge outcome on who wins this contest. Andrew Johns hasn't played at Energy Stadium since last 2003 against Manly and is eagerly awaiting his return to his domain.
Stacy Jones on the other hand hasn't really showed that spark that made him one of the best halfbacks in the game a few years ago. The game against Souths he showed some touches of class and laid on a few tries as well as scoring a few. Jones loves taking the battle to Johns, as does Johns to Jones. With that said it should be an outstanding battle between the 2 halfbacks who many think are both past their prime.

Dustin Cooper vs Jerome Ropati

These are two fullbacks who have plenty of potential. Dustin Cooper has been safe at the back for us, but hasn't really sparked for us so far. Jerome Ropati is a up and coming player, who was rewarded with a place in the New Zealand test squad. Both players have to watch the kicking game of the opposing team’s halfback, as they are both talented kickers who could give fullbacks nightmares.

Craig Smith vs Steve Price

Two hard working props that will have a important job getting their team over the advantage line. Craig Smith has been impressive since returning to the NRL, and has been our best forward along with Steve Simpson over the past 2 weeks. I think Craig is ready for the Warriors pack, and will enjoy playing in front of thousands of screaming novacastrians. Steve Price has been struggling at his new club, and has struggled to find that consistant winning formula. Price has still been playing well, just that the rest of the fowards tire easily making Price do more work. Price will play 50 or so minutes here and will put in his 110% aginst the Knights.

I think the boys can get a win here, and to be honest with all the injuries and suspended players that the Warriors have out, and with the possible inclusion of Danny Buderus infront of our Home crowd I think we can give them a smashing. Lets hope the boys can do the "Red n Blue Crew" Proud :D

all the warriors need to do is not let newcastle score for the first 10 minutes then they will give up and the warriors can put on 40 easy.

Good reading Thuga.
Stace has started off better tthis year than all of last year, but without a decent partner in the halves, he's lost. Unfortunately Ropati has to cover at fullback due to Webb's injury leaving Hohaia at stand-off and him and Stace aren't geling.

Tough to pick a winner between the 2 sides. They're both capable for different reasons.

Good luck to the Kinghts on Sunday, Warriors fans certainly can relate to how the Newcastle supporters are feeling.
