Thuga's Thoughts - Wrestlemania

For this Thuga's thoughts I would like to talk about Wrestlemania, the Grand daddy of them all.

When we look at past Wrestlemanias, we have had matches such as Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit vs HHH vs Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold vs Rock and all were great matches. Now when I look at HHH vs Batista in the main event, im not convinced that this will be a great match. But all they need to do with this match is too give it 15-20 minutes, have Batista do some of his powerful moves, maybe even a spine buster through the announce table etc. Have some near falls of finishers/weapon shots etc and have the ending be what it should be. That is all they really need to do to make it a good and intersting match.

Then we have matches like JBL vs John Cena and Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton vs Undertaker, as well as Jericho vs 5 other superstars in a ladder match. Im guessing it will be Jericho vs Shelton vs Benoit vs Edge vs Christian vs Mohammad Hassan in a I.C title match, and that could be a show stealer in its own right.

But instead of talking about the up coming wrestlemania, I want to focus more on the history of Wrestlemania. And for this, I will write down a brief summary of my 5 favourite Summerslam matches.

5 best Wrestlemania matches

Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart - Iron Man match

This was a match that went for 60+ minutes, and was a match never to forget. Both men put on their best performances in their careers, and the match was nothing short of a classic. There was only one pinfall in the entire match, and that was in sudden death over time when Shawn Michaels hit the Sweet Chin Music on Bret Hart and won the heavyweight title with Vince McMahon throwing in the Classic line "The boy hood dream has come true...for Shawn Michaels" while Shawn Michaels was on his knees looking at the World Title.
This match was the first ever Iron man match, and it will most likely go down as the greatest ever Iron man match.

Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle merged their genuine amateur wrestling skills with sports entertainment maneuvers to produce a showdown for the ages. The feud has been building up for a while, and it was probably the most anticipated match on the card. Performing with two bulging disks that required surgery, Kurt Angle held nothing back and neither did his opponent Lesnar. Kurt Angle hit his Suplexes as well as he has ever done, and Brock was hitting all the moves he usually does with Perfection. Brock Lesnar also did some things he is not famous for, and this is some high flying moves. Brock Lesnar went to the top rope and went to execute a shooting star press, however the move did not turn out the way it was planned. Brock landed awkwardly, and his head ramming into the mat at a good speed. The fans couldn't believe it, and it echoed a loud Holy Sh!t chant through out the arena. Lesnar eventually won the match with 2 F-5's, and after the match both men embraced on a job well done.

Bret Hart vs Stone Cold -Submission Match

This match wasn't in the main event, but it was one of the greatest of all time. The picture is still with me when Bret Hart locked in the sharpshooter and Stone Cold Steve Austin had blood streaming down his face refusing to tap out. A brawl wasn't what fans were used to seeing from Bret's flawless technical style, but nonetheless when he went out there with Austin and tore the house down, and it turned out to be a outstanding contest.
When Austin had passed out, it made him the most lovable man in the company and Bret one of the most hatest. This in my opinion is the match that made Stone Cold Steve Austin, even though he lost the match due to him passing out.

Stone Cold vs The Rock - Wrestlemania 17

Both men came into the match as fan favorites, but only one left as a fan favorite, while the other left with the WWE title and Vince McMahon. The match was held in Stone Cold's back yard in houston Texas, and the place was going nuts for the entire match. You had chair shots, bell shots, title belt shots, it was all happening. Both men were busten open and the Rock had just hit the peoples elbow, then out of nowhere Vinnie Mac Breaks up the count. Stone Cold and Vince continue to beat down on the Rock with Stunners and Chair shots etc. Stone Cold finally got the win when he used the chair like a mad man and got the 1-2-3 with McMahons Blessing. The greatest ever face in the company had turned heel, one of the biggest shocks in the history of the company.

Hulk Hogan vs The Rock

Icon vs Icon, the match lived up to all expectations. The Rock came in as the face, Hogan came in as the heel, although the plans were reversed. The crowd were all going for Hogan, while the Rock was getting Boo's etc. The corwd didn't leave their feet for the whole match, it was that exciting. Hogan hits the rock with a Leg Drop, but the Rock kicks out. Rock hits 2 rock bottom and peoples elbow and the match finally finishes with a great ending. After the match Hogan extends his hand to Rock and he accepts and NWO get their asses handed to them by both Icons as they celebrate in the ring.

Thats my top 5 mania matches, other matches that were in consideration were Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit vs HHH, Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit, Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels Bret Hart vs Owen Hart and Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior, as well as the TLC match and the Triangle ladder match.

Wrestlemania is where legends are born and Stars are made. Batista, John Cena, Randy Orton and guys like that could become stars at this years Wrestlemania. Shawn Michaels vs Angle, The ladder match all could be added to the great Wrestlemania matches list.

Thanks for reading fellas,

Cheers,
Thuga

Jericho ladder match idea is possibly the best idea of Wrestlemania besides from Angle vs. HBK, can't wait to hear about it.

Lesnar and Angle was good, but still IMO overated. So was HBK vs. Hart which is a classic but it had a lot of rest holds and so on.

Hart and Austin were also good picks however my personal fav that was excluded from your list is Razor Ramon vs. HBK, just a wonderful match and ahead of it's time too.

Oh sorry I missed it being mentioned.

Triangle ladder match is one match I find underated, it was unofficially the first real TLC match...maybe excluding the Chairs part of it, not sure only remember parts of the match.

How could the Randy Savage v Ricky Steamboat match from Mania 3, be left out it was a classic, then and a classic now

WM 5 Rick Rude v Ultimate Warrior deserves honourable mention Rude carried warrior through this match which is not easy to do, but certainly this match held its own.

WM 7 Ultimat Warriopr v Randy Savage, Savage carried Warrior making this a great match followed by Elizabeth reuniting with Savage after the match.

WM 10 Owen Hart beating Bret Hart it was a classic and Owens greatest win, only for a couple years later his tragic demise, truly the greatest ever uncrowned world champion.

thats my first 10 wrestlemani's done

I agree with some of those.

Savage and Steamboat to me is a bit overated, it was good back then, but not now.

Owen vs. Bret was a good match though and I agree with you.

The match between Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior, for someone who wasn't a fan back then, was one of the best matches I've seen. Technically it wasn't outstanding, but the energy and in ring chemistry was amazing. You don't see a lot of that these days.
