SMH reporter Adrain Proszenko has said Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys has resigned from the club

Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys has resigned from the position in another blow for the bottom-placed NRL club.

Humphreys, who has been under pressure after the Tigers' disastrous start to the season which has been riddled with injuries to key players, has handed in his notice but is expected to stay on until a replacement is found.

‘‘It’s a big call and one I do with a heavy heart, but I’m doing it because it’s in the best interests of the club. It’s in that context that I make that difficult personal decision. Wherever I might end up I’ll always be looking out and trying to help out however I can.’’

Not surprised. The pressure has been building for some time now, probably since mid last season- Sheens performance, Sheens firing, player contracts, player salaries, player power and the in crowd, the clubs recruitment farce, the drawn out new coach search for bargain basement salary, off field the Balmain Leagues redevelopment, the rivalry / warfare between Wests Ashfield, Balmain and Wests Campbelltown sections of the venture, amalgamation of Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers at the State Cup level.

Glad he is going. A few more backroom people to go too I hope.

Who ever replaces him should tell Sheens he will be reinstated as head coach. At least for the rest of the season. That should get Sheens to tear up his contract quick smart and run for the hills saving us a fortune.
Then they should tell Benji his bonus will be payed on a performance basis, again saving us mega bucks.

My theory - Humphreys' resignation is linked to the recent story about his handshake deal to extend Benji's contract. With Hunphreys gone that handshake agreement is null and void, letting the club off the hook.

Agreed. That should never have been entertained. Made us look like weekend park footy team, not a hard nosed professional league team. Main point benji's form has not even warranted such largesse on his behalf. The board may well have been spitting chips.

Suspect Blair and Marshall will remain under the microscope. Simmons must be on shakey ground and McDonnell too.

If true, that would be a new low for the club.

I know you're a pro Marshall fanatic but surely you cannot agree to the proposal that marshals form justifies a huge contract price rise and a 4 or 5 year extension at the moment. We still have a year to go with his current contract. It's not as if benji was. Offering to stay at same pay for new period.

Looks like my little birdie was on the money eh ...

A lot of players are sick of Marshall and not only his half arsed efforts on the field. He f**ks about at training, turns up late and goes through the motions. This is all the by product of sheens and his boy club. The players had it too easy for too long and the tap can't be turned back on

Imagine agreeing to pay a guy millions of dollars to chip kick on the second tackle 20 meters out from his try line.

I think a lot of the players are becoming prima donnas. We need to win games and Marshall needs to put in but the last thing we need is 20 year old players missing tackles on players half their size and then stating they are pissed off with Marshall making a joke.

I understood the contract upgrade was part of his current contract agreement and related to the increase in the salary cap. My point being if the Club had agreed to this at contract negotiation time, it should be honoured.

I agree. If we start dicking players around then nobody will want to come to our club.

Lets hope this is just the start of the resignations. I actually did not mind Stephen, but when your CEO of the biggest rabble in town your days are always going to be numbered and a resignation looks better on the resume than a sacking.

We just need to sort the mess out fast and start the rebuilding process and I hope Potter is not the next to fall. I like the way he is standing up to a few players who are salary cap eaters
