Tigpie fans re Lawrence and Head

I've been shouted down by plenty of Tigpie fans singing the praises of Chris Lawrence. I don't see anything too special about him, except perhaps that he's only 18/19? For those old enough to remember him, how does he compare with another brilliant Tiger cub, Tim Brasher. I never thought he was anything special either but he achieved plenty by hard work and commitment. Is Lawrence better than Brasher at the same age? Is he potentially a better player?

Way better than brasher at the same age - and brasher was a freak
IHe'll turn ou better than brasher .. bigger, stronger, faster
Brasher was a turnstyle .. lawrence makes the occasional bad read .. he'll learn

Not just bad reads but doesn't stick in the tackles either, seems to bump off to often. Still, there's plenty to like about him, I think so far this year it's been a case of teams paying him more attention.

Brasher is a 10 times beyyer mover than lawrence will ever be. Brasher simply glided around a football field.

Jaysus... you bag everything and everyone else at the club, but still keep sticking up for this bloke who has done nothing since about Round 8 last year...

Was it a "bad read" when Carney swatted him away like a flea on the way to the matchwinner yesterday arvo?

Brasher was good enough to play in a grand final at 17, and was the best centre in the side at that young age ( if you want to comment on "turnstiles", then what was his center partner Andy Courier??)

Next you'll be telling us that Teo is a better player than Siro was at the same age...

Brasher and Lawrence both at the same age were making the same defensive errors, they would try to tackle the opponent around their shoulders.

Brasher (moreso) and Lawrence were slightly built and don't have the size to be making effective tackles in this way. Brasher learnt fairly quickly to tackle lower.

Lawrence needs to learn that straight away.

Lawrence has potential. He's not great now but he can and probably will be.

The kid is only 19.

Same as Te'o. He's young and is going to be inconsistent but he will be a fine player.

Brasher came into the grade in a team of internationals and played well. however it wasnt until we were utter sh*t that brasher really shined. i felt sorry for him, he was a genuine rugby league superstar playing with a tam of nevilles.

i dont see him and lawrence as very similar to be honest. lawrence uses blistering pace and straight runs to beat his man. brasher would glide across field and just find a gap that was nowhere to be seen and slide through. i still remember round 1 1997 against manly at a sold out leichhardt oval he scored one of the best individual tries ive ever seen.

Also MOTH i thought brasher was a tremendous defender, pulled off many brilliant covering tackles and was withdoubt the best fullback under the high ball ive ever seen.

I`m definately with MOTH...........Brasher just made up the numbers in his first couple of seasons.

He was very ordinary in defence up until 1992-93. In those days, especially with the pack Balmain had from 1989-92, he could be hidden in the centres behind the forwards usually. Once his defence come good, he was moved back to fullback, where he was an absolute natural.

I see Lawrence becoming a good fullback, but only if he had someone to teach him to tackle.

Any chance of Garry Jack or Brash coming over to concord and show him and a few other backs how to catch a footy?

You couldnt have seen Garry Jack play then.

Streets ahead of Brash in all departments IMO.

Agreed...even when Jack went,it was noticeable the drop in defense.

Jimmy didnt miss too many,Brash missed some whoppers.

IMO aside from Origin and Tests when he used to play out of his skin,Brasher was a good first grader and thats about it.
