Unfortunate but those years out of the game in his early 20's really hurt him.
He never had any years out of the game...

Smith left Parra on full pay in 2008 with a tale of mental illness and needing his family's support etc, and then eight weeks laterhis manager signed him up for Wigan in the UK! He played over there for 2008-2009, before losing his spot to the new England half and returning to Australia/NRL for seasons 2010 and 2011.

Looks like he's back to somehwere in England again next season...? The guy just wasn't NRL standard apart from his first season, doing well to still be making a living out the game.

I remember them clearly making sterlo put a perfect grubber into the ingoal from 30 out, then watch Smith do the same thing but using a different technique and have sterlo heap praise on him and utter such nonsense like "I couldnt do that".

was an embarrassment for all concerned

LMFAO!!!

He was and has always been utter sh*t as far as I'm concerned. 2005 included.

Didn't help that the Telegraph and the Eels made mountains out of a couple of non-incidents.

Smith has been linked with Widnes and Wakefield in the UK. Hopefully he is better than the last time he was over here, his defence was up there with the worst I have ever seen.

Yeah such a shame he never really got it going at sharks but when your a half your only as good as the team around you.

Just look at mortimer in 09 everyone thought he was a superstar in the making and we saw what he was doing this year.

I think had Tim Smith stayed at broncos and had a couple games during rep footy he would bee talking differently at the moment.

I would have thought perhaps he could be doing the job that hunt is doing off the bench for the broncos at the moment.

I would like to see him get picked up by souths who have a pretty good backline and forward line on paper at least. It would be a shame to lose him to the ESL again.

Not eveyone. Mostly it was just people who believe what the DT writes, and the Bulldogs.

I didnt rate him ever and im sure plenty of others didnt either.

Do wonder sometimes whether the potential is lost because of the coaching received or simply because of the kid themselves...

Brian Smith in your head wouldn't help, destroyed too potential great halves in Carney and Smith not to mention loads of other promising juniors over the years.

Tim Smith was scared, pure a simple.
Last game of 2010 and his stats were 0 runs for 0 meters.
I think he played one fg game for the Sharks this year, and I watched as he fell to the ground in front of an opposition player so he wouldnt be tackled.
The bloke lost his nerve......and with that he lost any skill he had.

^Yep Smith has always been a soft c*ck. I used to always notice that he'd NEVER run the ball. He'd just stand n pass or kick. Crap player who I knew wouldn't last the test of time, bi-polar or not.

Actually didn't matter, to be honest...

Cream rises to the top, crap falls to the bottom. The kid had one lucky season, and clearly isn't up to grade (or the hype that people gave him due to that first season).

Hope for his sake he stays well mentally, and goes to a Superleague side that can cover his defence (and has other alternate options in attack).

Lucky season my arse. A kick can be lucky, or a bounce or a pass. Smith shone for a season in the NRL. That is a big test.

Yep, it was great in 2005, except for the final game.

The fact he couldn't come close to replicating it in 2006, 2007, 2008 (here or in England), 2009 (in England), 2010, and 2011... suggests that it was just luck after all.

As I said, best of luck to the guy in England next year, he's doing well to be able to still make a living out of the game. But 7 years after Tim Smith's 15 mins of fame, surely we can tone down the hype a bit? Mortimer was good for half a season in 2009 as well....

He is joining Widnes, the new Franchise, so its unlikely they will have the players to cover his defence. He is also going to be playing intense derbies against the best 3 teams in the Northern hemispere. So i guess we will see if he has lost his nerve or not.

Bit harsh saying he had a lucky season. I mean any player who can carry luck on for a whole year has to have had something about him. Whether he still has it or not.
