Time to move on Smithy

I have just been watching the Roosters/Eels game and can't get over just how far the Eels have fallen since 2001. They are a total shambles of a team unable to complete even the most basic skills of the game.To be quite honest they appear to be very poorly coached lacking in components of the game. I think it is now very obvious that it was Daniel Anderson and not Smith who was the major contributor to building their 2001 team, Smith is taking them backwards.

Looks as though the onlymantle decoraion Smith will bring to the eels is the wodden spoon.

Parra are just hopeless.
I said earlier in the year they would go nowhere because their passing game is seriously below that of an NRL contender side.
I will say though that are cop more rough refs decisions than any other team.
I think this has had an impact on them over the past couple of years.
They are now doing stupid things and deserve to be penalised on most occassions.
In fact I would go so far as to say the refs have ripped the guts out of Parra.
There was the Newcastle game last year and the Penrith game the year before.
I believe that Smith has done something somewhere because it seems to me that no matter who refs Parra they cop shit.
I don't know why there is this vendetta against Smith, but teams that he coaches do not get a fair go.
Until the NRL sort this issue out, then it is hard to see the game being fairly administered.
I mean I watched the Saints bear the brunt of piss-poor(bias) refereeing for over 20 years and it now seems to be Parras turn.
It simply boils down to the fact that one team gets penalised for a perceived rule infringement and when the other team does exactly the same thing there is no penalty.
Therein lies the crux of Parras problem.
The Dragons seem to be not suffering that fate as much at the moment, but we still have Harrigan to come on Sunday.
I have often wondered why Smith does not make an issue of the matter(it would be easy to prove) and I have always been wild at the Dragons management for not going public with their complaints.
I know there would be accusations of bad sportsmanship being tossed around, but so what if it improves your teams chances of getting equal treatmeant.

The round 1 defeat by 32-14 wasn,t too bad as the Roosters were awesome but last night the chooks were no more than competent, which is all you need to be if no-one is tackling you.
God knows what the problem is.Refs are certainly giving them a hammering and injuries haven,t helped but that doesn,t explain the unwillingness to tackle-unless of course they have simply given up.
How Smith can turn this around is difficult to see.Maybe Fitzy will now realise the folly of long-term contracts.

Parra have to do a major cleanout and start from scratch and build a new team around a select few players. Of the current crop, I would keep Hindmarsh, Morris, Solomona and Lyon. The rest are not a t first grade standard. Brett Hodgson looks scared while Vella is just plain terrible.

I think their season is effectively over. Last night their defence was terrible and they look small compared to the Roosters players.

Basically, Parra are pathetic but i'm sure channel nine will continue to give them coverage right up until they win the wooden spoon.

Are you in N.Z., justme?
No El, I'm on the GC.I was at a guys place who has a huge dish and can unscramble overseas broadcasts if that was what you were wondering about, I was watching it live :D

Not so sure Parra need a cleanout of players as much as they need a different coach. They were very successfull when players coming through were playing to Andersons style which the Warriors have now adapted. Since his departue the team has regressed to Smith's dourbumblingstyle and looks a shambles

Can,t see the logic in your Anderson theory, justme.Once you are in the ones you play according to that coaches game plan.Plus Taylor and Drew played major roles that year and had little or nothing to do with Anderson.
I think it,s more to do with attitude.Something is seriously wrong. If the coach has run out of ideas and enthusiasm after 7 years then that would rub off on the players.
This is all conjecture and only the coach and players really know.
It,s odd that all the players who have left speak very highly of the professional regime and discipline at Parra.
This is what seems to have gone out the door this season.

Dennis Fitzgerald is always crowing about having the comp reduced to 12 teams for the good of rugby league..well the way Parra are palying Fitzgerald ought to offer to merge with Penrith to free up a licence..he is always the first one to judge other teams when they are ona lean trot!

The 2001 team wasthe culmination of what was built in 2000 with all the youngsters coming through under Anderson's coaching. They brought their attacking and defensive styles of play through with them and initially just played the same way under Smith. Since then however Smith has coached the free flowing spirit out of them andwith all the players who have moved on from 2001, againSmith's decision I may add,is why I saySmith has destroyed what was potentially a truly great team. Just my opinion but the Warriors under Anderson are playing the exact same football as the Eels were in 2000 and 2001, and that is NOT the style Smith coaches.

It wasnt Smiths decision that all the players who have left since 01 should go, thats garbage. Most moved to get a permanent run on spot & others, like McDumbarse, were shown the door because they were picked up as a stop-gap (ironic considering)& had served their purpose.

Without harping on who's injured, the only game this yearthat has left me feeling empty was friday night. I can accept being beaten but I cant accept not trying & when you only have 75% of your players putting in & only 40% of those have any real talent then it all comes down to heart & Parra just didnt have any. Smith cant coach that, it has to come from the team themselves. Killa, Widders & Hopkinswere the onlyones that I thought could really holdtheir heads up, maybe Hodgson if he didnt get injured & when you have 17 to choose from thats just pathetic.

Out of curiosity, if you could sack Smithat the end of the yearwho on the market would you replace him with?

They just have to start rorting the salary cap.
I see the Roosters have expressed interest in Rhys Wesser (naturally they have denied any discussions). Now Wesser is sure to be a $200/250k touch, but it,s no problem to the chooks.
Fitzy should ring Gurr and get him to explain "unrelated third parties"

Smith isnt the be all & end all of contracts at Parra. Obviously he has a huge say but theres more to it then just him.
Not according to Fitzgerald. On 2gb yesterday he said Smith makes all the decisions on what contracts are offered and to who they are offered. The players that have left did so because Smith either didn't want them or only offered short term contracts. As Fitzgerald said, the playing personell at Parra is exactly whatSmith wanted.

justme, I thought it was prett well known that was the way things worked.

Smithy has to go IMO and it's not like I haven't said it before. I said it ages ago actually but the only thing I can find is a post in Roopys old 2002wish list thread.

I thought so too El but apparently eels fan hinks otherwise. Smith wasa dickhead at Souths, Illawarra and St George and he hasn't improved any at Parra. Still can't believe Jack Gibson's loyalty toSmith by resigning from Souths because they sacked Smith as the then 3rd grade coach. TodaySmith snubbs Gibson because he won't agree with his methods, the bloody wanker should compare records.

It's not apparent, its true. I do think Smith isnt the be all when it comes to contracts outParra way& if you think he makes those decisions soley on his own then its not for me to convince you otherwise but I can promise you there are plenty of others with more than a pinch of input. And the playing personell ISNT exactly what Smith wanted at all, but it was the best he could get his hands on within reason.
