100% with Karma there summed it up beautifully!

So next year dropping our deadwood:

1. Kidley
2. Uate
3.
4.
5. McManus

6. Mullen (just...)
7.

8.
9. De Gois
10.
11. Patto
12. Taia
13.

14.
15. Faas
16.
17.

Not much of a team left to be honest... Anyone else deserves not to get cut?

Probably the first team list I've seen you post where you don't casually slip in a Cronk, Gasnier or Inglis

If I was running the Knights recruitment...the main deadwood that I would cut (given that most of the people we carry on about are on or near minimum wage):

Ben Cross

We have got very little value at all for whatever we are paying him so far this year (and he is off contract at the end of this season). I wish he was injured this year and was on the park for the last two, as he was great in his brief appearances prior to this season!

Out of all the players at the club at the moment, the only guy you would get rid of is the only front rower we have who has a decent dig?

Serc...you are back better than ever...

Cross is having a dig, but on half as many occasions as he has done in previous seasons. We have other players having a dig at times as well, but are earning less than half the coin he is on.

There's no point in cutting 5-6 players on less than 100k, as you have to replace them with other players who are of the same value. You may/may not be upgrading from what you already have on these types of players.

But back to Cross, when you have a player who is in our top 5 (probably top 3) highest paid players at the club, who has spent much of his contract on the sidelines, and when he actually gets on the field for a while produces very little (and towards the end of his contract and keeping in mind his age), I feel pretty justified suggesting we give him the flick.

Edit: I should also say...no doubt there will be a few minimum wagers cut after this season, but I just wanted to keep that part of the salary cap/top 25 in perspective

Apey it seems I have run out of jokes and the final ounce of optomism has left my system after such a long and draining season....:(

JW was thinking Hilder but he hasn't been playing his best this year really... He is sorta climbing into deadwood catagory imo...

I would include Simmo and Doogs, unfortunately I think they are past it. We really need to start with a new Proven coach, someone that will attract players with some quality. Until that happens we are only going to be able to get second rate players here, and lets face it we already have a fine crop of them. I'm now sure Stone was picked because like everything else that we do he was cheap.

In respect to Doogs, can you actually think of a time this year when he has received any quality ball?

Yeah great... Except we can't sign any.

Come on people, it's great to offer wild suggestions, but at least try to make them realistic solutions.[/QUOTE]

You appoint an experienced NRL coach and better players will come and replace the rabble I have mentioned.

Sticky comes to mind.

Players won't come to Newy to be coached by Stone.

I posted 2 weeks ago to several people why this is a stupid idea. On the other hand i hope they do take sticky just so some people in here learn a few things. Sticky is just the only solution you have which is why you mentioned him. Sticky sucks dig up the thread.

A good clean out is whats needed. If it means next year is more a development year then so be it. Newcastle should effectivly cleanout and start fresh. With good management there are many high uality U20s players you could sign and offer first grade positions, and if 2-3 of them turn out to be good then so be it. As well as that a guy like Kimmorley is likely on the dogs out, covell may be forced out of the sharks due to salary crap, as is tim moltzen who is unwanted by the Tigers. Several guys from the Storm will have to be let go and St George will always struggle to keep there squad.

There are plenty of guys who can be signed. It probably starts with the coach. Who wants to play under Rick Stone. A world class coach will not come to newcastle, but someone like Ricky Stuart or Tim Sheens is about as good as you can get, but they will attract players. Sheens would be able to bring a few Tigers, and Stuart would have good contacts all over the nrl.

There are plenty of good players on cheap money. Effective forwards. Look at some of the Canberra forwards who wouldnt be on much who make a good impact every game. Logan, Tilse etc

I'd love to have Covell, if we have Uate on one wing and Covell on the other, that will be the best wing combination in history:lol::lol:

I agree, the bloke is on rep money but he doesn't exactly play like a rep player. Cross is big and tries hard but really thats not good enough for a player on his salary. His hands are suspect, he has no footwork, doesn't offload and basically just runs straight (that Brisbane game he was getting hammered at will by a centre), add in the concussions, injuries and his age and its a no brainer to me, he either plays for 150k a year or finds himself another club willing to pay him 300k a year (which I doubt he'd find). ANyone who thinks Cross has been a good signing the last 2 and half years needs to have their brain examined.

Yep, he only showed it in one or two games. One of those games was rd 1 this year vs Bulldogs, he was awesome. Apart from that

I don't begrduge the bloke or anything but he just hasn't got the talent IMO, hence why he didn't make 1st grade till his mid 20's. Sure he looked good for a storm pack that had White, Crocker, Lima, Hoffman, Blair, Jeremy Smith and Cameron Smith(IMO even Jesse Royal would look like a world beater playing alongside those blokes), but when you break his game down its not a pretty picture, he's a throwback frontrower, a bloke who would've thrived in mid to early 90's but these days props have to have more than just size and toughness, they now need to have good hands, abit of footwork, good lateral quickness and an offload, and Cross just doesn't have those things. If we give him another contract on the money he's on at the moment it'll be a big mistake

There you go. Our biggest problem... We fix this, the rest will follow dominoes style!
