Departing Dragon Nathan Blacklock has fired off a shot at his former team-mates before heading to the UK.

The try-scoring winger, who only played a small number of first grade games last season, warned the under achieving Dragons must rediscover some passion.

Blacklock, headed to UK Super League Club Hull after eight seasons at Kogarah, said the club has lost the spirit that used to run through the veins of players from past eras.

"I just dont think we had as much passion as the old Dragons sides" Blacklock was reported in a Coffs Harbour newspaper.

"Players like Nathan Brown, Mark Coyne and Jeff Hardy..they were very passionate. You get energy off being around those guys, but we need a few more players like that on the field".

Blacklock, who was a guest speaker at an Aboriginal education and cultural expo at Coffs Harbour Education Campus, rated pulling on the St George jersey as a highlight of 10 seasons in first grade.

"It [playing last year] was a bit frustrating", said Blacklock, who will spend Christmas in his home town, Tingha, before flying to England on December 28.

"It was a bit like a car with only two or three cylinders firing..it is not going to go too far"

"I cant wait to get out there and play with Hull and enjoy myself. It has been a long season with the injuries I had this year. I wasnt happy about how my time at the Dragons finished up because of those injuries"

I think thats been our obvious flaw for quite some time. The desperation to win and the disgust at losing hasnt been there.

I think its turning around though under Brown as coach.

Good to see Tingha putting some pressure on the blokes and good to hear it was a highlight to wear the jumper.

I fully agree with his comments. I know the article is trying to place some 'parting shot' angle on it, but he's really just putting a rocket under these guys.
There's not too many players more passionate about the game than Nathan Blacklock.

He is absolutely correct when he says that players like Nathan Brown, Mark Coyne and Jeff Hardy were more passionate than the current crop. And I can but imagine Brownie's frustration sometimes coaching this lot.

Thankfully, he seems to be cleaning out the dead wood and making some headway.

This is a beaut:

Without wanting to open old wounds and have man_of_steel fired up, the years under Farrar were costly with regards to attitude.

He was so flat an unemotional, it had to have rubbed off on the payers.

Farra was a twat but can anyone seriously doubt Big Lance Thompson's passion?

As for a few of the others I am forced to agree. The red and white should instill desire in every player that wears it. I know its hard week in week out but at the critical moments in any game the "V", the logo and the combined grit of two proud clubs should be enough to fire up any player into going that extra mile - if it aint dont pull on the red and white in the first place.

ditto but is there another angle too?

i am wondering though just how much influence the passion of the fans can have. think about manly at kogarah and the lack of faith all those so called dragons fans had when they left with 23 to go.

having said that, the sight of the northern hill at penrith in the first semi; the red and white streaming down the slope was awesome.

I'm glad someone has finally come out from Dragons & actually admitted that's their a problem in the club (which is obvious to all) instead of people acting like there's nothing wrong. May be a kickstart for us

To be fair to the current crop it must be said that the team of the 90s where a special bunch. Very young, passionate and together. Coyne, Brown, Bartrim, Walford and a young Thommo. I don't know when we last had a team full of players like them. Maybe Bath's Babes but I cant say for sure as I wasn't around to see them.

Hello again my old "Brudda" Daithi,

Been AWOL in the RSA for a wee bit but am back for now. Tingha's comments might upset the Steeler faction but they are the one & the same people who have been holding us back since 1999.

Go to Hullfc.com for all your Aborignal BLACKflipping - entertaining Rugby League needs...

PS: Met the "Out"laws. Her Dad's family is from Birmingham in the 1970's. Makes for interesting discussion about Nationalism & the Catholic Faith, in general.

Is the family Villa or City? City are supposed to be the Huns of the Midlands, that's why their strip is blue.

The family is sadly ambivilent to sport, religion & politics. I can only assume that Christmas dinner is a tame affair indeed...

Blacklock's got more heart then Cronulla does potheads.

If he had played for The Scum he'd be one of your "Immortals" by now.

Hell if Colin Ward had played for Conulla you'd have named a stand after him.
