Titans bad sportsmanship?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but during the first half when the Titans put up the first bomb of the day (which Milne dropped) did one of the Titans players (i thought it was Peterson or O'Dwyer) yell out "wooh, wooh" to distract Milne while he was taking the catch?

THe FOX commentators heard it and were not impressed.

Wouldnt expect anything less from that merkin Peterson anyway...biggest git ever.

ANyway, couple that with their constant grappling and Devon Heads post match comments I have a sudden distaste for the GC club. If that is their attitude is and how they conduct sportsmanship, they can take a long walk off a short pier. Plus it makes a 46 point thrashing that much sweeter....:p

You have to be kidding me. Yelling out "wooh wooh", I'd say there has been quite a few more offputting things yelled out by fans and players over the years then 'wooh wooh."

Unless I'm missing something here and that "wooh wooh" has some kind of special meaning to Milne.

Isn't that a part of homeground advantage? Crowds should be ignored by the players, but players should not have to put up with that from opposition players.

Braybrooke made mention in the call that baulking and yelling at players in that position is actually against the rules, and he should have been penalised

That queer prick petersen was to blame for the distraction to milne, you actually see petersen apologise to milne when daves on the ground.

It should of been a penalty to us writely so.

Petersen was later injured in the game and is probably out for the season, so he got his own back didnt he, hahahhahahaha, cya next season pal.

just like in cricket ur not aloud to scream at a fielder i bet u drop it or anything along those lines. i think its under the spirit of the game

on sledging sledging is more making a comment or a verbal attack on a player. which is normal done like off the ball when it isnt being contested.

Its amazing what sort of trolls you attract when you raise a thread like this.

Freddo got it 100% correct. Its (Petersons cat call) against the spirit of the game and thus is a penalty. And as far as I knew, so is grappling.

I didn't really see what the Fox commentators problem was-for example whenever ex-teammates sing out each others nicknames and trick each other into passing the ball, Gary Freeman usually reacts as though it was the cleverest play on earth, where as I don't really see a difference. You're still throwing the other guy off.

If a player from the opposing side gets caught calling for the ball, then the ref is entitled to penalise him. I guess its a soft penalty, but again it is against the spirit of the game.

Gary Freeman probably sees obvious baulking like Petersons a bit of a dog act as it reveals a bit of the guys character that he has to cat call to his opposite number to get over him. Why cant Peterson just put pressure on like normal by contesting the ball? Why not just belt the guy when he catches it? Why does he have to call out like a dog?

because he is a dog....

While I agree it's poor sportsmanship, and the sign of an ordinary player, it would be a big call from the ref to penalise it (or to be in a position to clearly hear it). Considering guys like Hoppa got away with his disappearing finger trick on the field and Martin Bella got away with his fetish for grabbing the jatz crackers in tackles, I realistically can't see something like this getting called up.

However I think it's fair enough for it to be highlighted in the media (like Gallens diving), because it is a cheap act.

Jesus Christ. Build a bridge and get over it guys.

If he as a first grade footballer can't handle someone yelling at him then he probably shouldn't be in first grade.

Timbo, every player should be playing fairly within the rules and in the right spirit. Yes, every player will attempt to get away with something while playing, its just a matter of being conspicuos and clever enough not to be so obvious...

milne is a professional

football is not like golf - where it is silence - you can hear the footsteps just as loud and if anything, the footsteps is what distracts you under a highball

it should of been taken - regardless if what petersen did is against the rules

in golf or tennis i understand a verbal baulk..even cricket, fielders cant say anything during the bowlers run-up

i think the rule is there in league so nobody blantantly abuses it, and starts yelling words willy nilly and every highball, like an NFL player prior to snap

i mean if the rule wasnt there - who wouldnt a few times test out the opposition and get 2cm from his ear and start laying into his mother, whilst the ball is in air - like wrestling stuff, it shouldnt be in the game - hence the rule

but still - milne should have taken that........if words distract you, god knows what a flying human playing at the ball would do.

While I agree that Petersen is a complete cat, Milne should be able to handle someone yelling sh*te at him. As Timbo said, he is a 1st grade footballer for god's sake!

I was watching it on Fox and I heard the comments. Without wanting to appear bias I think that ruling is rubbish and I'd still be saying the same thing if it were said about someone doing it to the Titans.
If this ruling is correct, we are turning our game and players into pussy's!
The game should be about mental toughness aswell and being able to block out any noises to focus on the task at hand.

All in all, Raiders deserved to win. Congrats on the walloping!

The only bad sportsmanship I could see was Kahler's comments before the match and Bailey's afterwards.
