Basing this only on players I saw play (not highlight videos), so the 80s premiership teams are out of the equation for me

Best ever player: Jason Smith or Hindmarsh
Worst ever player: Wise Kativerata
Best value for money signing: Luke Burt
Biggest ever flop: Kieran Foran
Player who never reached their potential: Hayne. If he’d stayed with the club Instead of heading to the NFL and remained a life-long 1 time Eel, I think he would have been in immortal conversation. Another Daly M or two, and was well on his way to most tries and appearances for nsw when he left - would hold those records now if he hadn’t of (actually he still holds the equal try record..)

I agree with this but would put Sandow ahead of Ben Roberts.

Adam Dykes was a titanic failure, but who saw it coming ? IIRC we signed him hot off the heals of winning the Dally M gold/silver or 6 of the year !

after losing the unlosable GF in 01 and looking forward to having a Dally M winner at 6 and solid 7 in McFadden I was convinced we would go through 02 undefeated...I was even more confident after the first game against Penrith, then the universe took a massive dump on us, turned to us then laughed....

BEST ever player: Sterlo
WORST ever player: Esi Tonga
BEST value for money signing: Glenn Morrison
BIGGEST ever flop: Foran
Player who never reached his potential: So many to name, probably Tim Smith or even Semi, if he doesn’t leave I reckon he becomes our top try scorer ever easily and an all time great

Can we add another question? Something like worst ever call on a player ? There has been some beauties over the years. One member in particular could be nominated a few times and it’s not the resident troll either.

Actually Gaz the last one I’m going to choose Tim Smith. Hayne did reach his potential as the best player in the game. Formally he achieved it twice.

BEST ever player: Ray Price
WORST ever player: none, anyone in an NRL system/squad past or present is one hell of a player. Better then 99% of players who played the game at some level
BEST value for money signing: Steve Edge
Poor value: Bob Linder
Player who never reached his potential: Tim Smith

with the exception of Paul Kent of course...

he's got to be the only player at the club to have been chosen to play first grade to specifically assist in qualifying another player to play finals footy in reserve grade..

In terms of people I saw:
Best player: Hayne
Worst player: Justin Poore
Best value: Fui (how the f**k isn’t he on more lists?)
Worst value: Sandow but not entirely his fault until it was his fault
Never reached potential: Tim Smith

Winning the Dally M doesn’t make you the best player in the game. It sometimes reflects that you are, but often it’s simply the way the cards fold with media voting. Nico Hynes & Jake Wighton were never the best players in the NRL, yet have Dally M’s.

I don’t think Hayne got even close to his ceiling as a player - due to his attitude/training ethics, and his decision to leave in his prime for the NFL

Exactly - he was at his peak when signed, hence (imo) turned into the biggest flop. Foran not far behind on similar basis, though I think we knew Watmough might have come with some injury issue?
