Bischoff and Hogan swing axe in wake of Turning Point; Kurt Angle/Rob Van Dam
Monday 30th November

In the wake of TNA Wrestling's latest pay per view event, TNA's highly publicised newly aquired creative directors, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have continued the axing of the roster, culling four members of the World Elite faction.

Sheik Abdul Bashir, Rob Terry, Brutus Magnus and Kiyoshi have all been handed their notice as the company edge's its way to going live, signalling the end to the fledgling mid card faction.

There has been no word on remaining members, though it is rumoured that Homicide has been unhappy in TNA for a while and could join his stablemates on the outer.

Eric Young on the other hand, is said to be on quite good terms with existing TNA management, though this could all change once Hogan returns from the Hulkamania Tour of Australia in a month's time.

Doug Williams however is being praised for his workrate, and is widely rumoured to be partaking in the World X Cup tournament due to begin this week in iMPACT!

The mood in the locker room is said to be a tad uneasy as talent are uncertain about their futures, as the axe continues to be swung and Hogan hypes up the possibility of potential signings.

In other news following Turning Point, Kurt Angle is taking some much deserved time off to nurse a recurring back injury which he has had since Lockdown.

Angle, who is no stranger to the surgeon's knife, will not need surgery, but is said to be a little burnt out, so has been rested by management.

There has been no word on what Kurt will do when he returns, though it is likely he will resume his fued with Christopher Daniels.

Many have speculated this is why Rob Van Dam was debuted this past Sunday, as opposed to holding it off for the live debut in late December.

TNA makes three new signings; Rumoured aquisitions for December 31st's live debut; Just when will Bischoff and Hogan debut?
Tuesday 1st December

As the tide continues to swell in TNA Wrestling, three new names have appeared on their roster following four talent releases announced yesterday.

Former WWE and Ring of Honor talent Brian Kendrick is understood to have signed a one year deal with the company, as they look to expand their X Division with 'names'.

Kendrick, who held the tag team titles in the WWE with fellow new recruit Paul London, is expected to debut sometime in the coming weeks as part of the World X Cup.

There is no word as to wether or not he will resume his team with Kendrick on a full time basis, but those within TNA believe this will certainly be the case in the immediate future.

TNA Wrestling has also secured the services of British veteran Robbie Brookside.

Brookside, who is a lightweight worker most famous for botching a bridge during a match with Dean Malenko on WCW Nitro, has been telling people he will wrestle alongside former tag team partner Doug Williams in the World X Cup tournament.

Brookside has also worked a number of dark matches and squash appearances for the WWE when they have toured the UK, and footage of Brookside in the moment discussed above, can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLku5ht6EVw

Finally, Ring of Honor wrestler Davey Richards has reportadly signed a deal with TNA Wrestling, pending a physical.

Richards, who gained notoriety this past year thanks in part to a series of matches with Kevin Steen and El Generico as part of the American Wolves tag team, and what has been described as a classic by internet critics with Kenta during a show on Wrestlemania weekend, has been telling people he will be finishing up with Ring of Honor by December's end.

Footage of Richards' work can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NUmydjTL7M

On top of these aquisitions, rumours are rife with who just may sign with TNA as they go live on December 31st.

Sources within TNA say Hogan, Bischoff and Dixie Carter are keeping a tight lid on just who may show up, but those names in the hat include Mr. Kennedy, Umaga, Shannon Moore, Sean "Val Venis" Morley and the Nasty Boys, who are all scheduled to go on tour with Hogan in Australia this month.

Other names which have been bought up by some include Scott Hall and Sean Waltman aswell as Raven, former TNA and WWE talent Monty Brown aka Marcus Cor Von, Jeff Hardy, and even Ric Flair.

The latter three do seem to be longshots, another of which is former ECW owner Paul Heyman, who has been in talks with the company, despite denying the rumour.

Heyman, who has a deep dislike for Bischoff, has actually been in constant communication with the company for the past three or four months, and dialogue has been continuing between the two parties since the annoucnements of the past month.

One wrestler who is not joining TNA is Sid. Despite saying that he had been in talks, Dixie Carter emphatically shot down this rumour, after tweeting:

"Discussed a few acquisitions today. Sid not being one of them."

Though Hulk Hogan is not expected to appear on TNA television until the year's end at least, we can confirm that Eric Bischoff is backstage at tapings this week, so there is a chance he will make an appearance.

DDP to TNA?; World X Cup news
Wednesday 2nd December

In a recent interview with UK tabloid The Sun, former WCW World Heavyweight Champion "Diamond" Dallas Page signalled that he would be ready to return to the ring if the opportunity arose.

After speaking on a number of issues, including his time in WWF, his first run as WCW World Champion and his early work with Scott Hall, Page responded to rumours regarding TNA quite openly.

"Honestly, we haven't talked, nor do I think they'll be in contact," said Page of Hogan and Bischoff as the company seeks to go live in the coming weeks. "But if they asked me to come in and work, I'd be open to it."

Unlike some of the guys from back in the day, I'm actually in exactly, if not, better shape than when I left. I live a healthy lifestyle, and thanks to yoga, I could still definitly go."

Page has been a huge advocate for yoga as a fitness tool since retiring from the ring.

In other TNA news, we can confirm that a number of matches were taped for the upcoming World X Cup beginning this Thursday.

TNA Mobile has sent out a message that on tomorrow night's broadcast the following matches will take place:

Brian Kendrick & Paul London (Team USA) v Rey Bucanero & Ultimo Guerrero (Team Mexico)
Nigel McGuinness (Team Great Britain) v Dragon Kid (Team Japan)

So, it appears that Kendrick has indeed signed with TNA Wrestling, atleast for the short term, though there is no word as to whether or not this has relation to his work with Dragon Gate.

Sources close to TNA say that the format will feature both tag and singles matches, with some sort of pay off match at the company's December pay per view event, titled Final Resolution.

TNA iMPACT!
Thursday 3rd December

This week’s edition of iMPACT! began with a highlight package of the events surround TNA’s latest pay per view event, Turning Point, focussing particularly on Rob Van Dam’s debut, Suicide being unmasked, Awesome Kong and the Motor City Machine Guns winning their respective division championships, Christopher Daniels beating down Kurt Angle after he tapped out to the ankle lock, and AJ Style s retaining the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against the challenger, Samoa Joe. This was followed by the regular TNA iMPACT! opening package which concluded with the phrase, “TNA: We Are Wrestling.”

Mike Tenay and Taz welcomed fans to this week’s iMPACT! on the “road to live television." Almost immediately, fans were treated to one of the greatest signings in the company’s history, Rob Van Dam. Van Dam entered the arena not dressed to wrestle, though wore a huge smile on his face and seemed genuinely excited to be there. Van Dam was treated to “Rob Van Dam” chants as well as “Whole f’n show” cries from the crowd. The man once dubbed “Mr. Pay Per View” told those in the iMPACT! Zone it took him a while to get there, but finally RVD is in TNA. Van Dam began speaking on his history, how he wowed fans with his innovative style, and what better way to showcase his skills than in the most innovative company in wrestling today. “In the past I was called Mr. Monday Night, Mr. PPV, now, Rob Van Dam is Mr. Thursday Nights, Mr. TNA!” The crowd roared, however Van Dam was cut off by the man who has dubbed himself “Mr. TNA”, Christopher Daniels. Daniels, also not dressed to wrestle and holding the chair he had destroyed Kurt Angle with at Turning Point, was quick to point out that he was Mr. TNA, not Rob Van Dam. “I put this company on the map. No one busted their ass more for TNA than Christopher Daniels. Not AJ Styles. Not Kurt Angle. Not anyone.” Van Dam asked Daniels if there was something he’d like to get off his chest as he’s interrupted his opening address in TNA. Daniels called Van Dam overrated, the big fish in a small pond, and one of the greediest in the business today, “capitalising on the hard work I put in.” Daniels said that he would love nothing more than to come into that ring and put him in a hospital bed next to Kurt Angle, like this” after a brief video package highlighting what Daniels did to Angle, Tenay citing the fact that Angle is out of action indefinitely, Daniels continued “but no one has wrecked Van Dam’s career than Rob Van Dam himself. Van Dam responded by saying Kurt Angle is a good friend of his, and what Daniels did after their match was pathetic and cowardly. “Mr. Thursday Nights” followed up by saying that he has had his setbacks, but he’s here in TNA to get his career back on track, and why not start right now with Christopher Daniels. Daniels concluded by saying that he doesn’t get in the ring with just anyone, and if he did, it’s under his terms, his conditions. “I can tell you this Van Dam. If I was to get into the ring with you, I’d end your career before it could get started, and send you back to Vince with the rest of the pensioners”. We broke for a commercial with Daniels staring down Van Dam from the ramp way, Van Dam motioning for Daniels to step into the ring.

Following the commercial, Mike Tenay and Taz again point out the fact that TNA goes live on New Year’s Eve, and what better way to showcase what fans can expect than the X Division. Tenay announces that tonight will be the beginning of the World X Cup, where by X Division athletes from Great Britain, from the United States, from Japan and from Mexico will do battle for the pride of their country to be crowned World X Cup champions for 2009. As this announcement was being made, Team Japan’s Dragon Kid had been making his entrance and got a decent reaction from the crowd. The commentators put over his opponent, who would be making his TNA debut, Team Great Britain’s Nigel McGuinness. Before the match could get underway, McGuinness grabbed a microphone and talked about the history and pride of the X Division before stating that Team Great Britain would be crowned World X Cup Champions. McGuinness finished by mocking Dragon Kid, “and you, you may not speak English pal, but an asswhipping is universal in any language!” The match itself was fast paced to begin with, Dragon Kid gaining the upper hand thanks to his superior pace and agility. McGuinness was able to ground Dragon Kid however, using a hybrid style of European catch-as-can, mixed with mixed martial arts submission. The match only lasted seven minutes before McGuinness was able to catch Dragon off guard with a roaring short arm lariat, following up with the Tower of London, to secure a victory on his debut, and one point for his World X Cup team.

Backstage, “JB” Jeremy Borash was outside the Motor City Machine Guns' locker room, hoping to interview the newly crowned TNA World Tag Team Champions. Borash knocked a few times before Sabin answered, pulling JB into the locker room and asking him what he wanted. Shelley, who had a girl under each arm on a sofa, got up, and the two began messing with JB, rather “DX” style, pushing him around and mocking his appearance, avoiding any questions or cries for an interview. Borash finally asked who the Guns preferred to face out of Beer Money and Hernandez/Matt Morgan, who compete for the number one contendership in tonight’s main event. The Guns, snapping out of their antics briefly, finished the segment with Sabin saying “it doesn’t matter, we’re the champs, we’re the best tag team in the world,” with Shelley following up with “we’re invincible anyway, so it could be Satan and God, we’d still have their shoulders pinned before the commercial break.”

TNA iMPACT! also saw the TNA Knockouts Championship on the line, with newly crowned champion Awesome Kong defending her title in a triple threat match which also involved Sarita and her former handler, Raisha Saeed. Kong dominated both women from the get go, utilising a number of double power moves, including a double sidewalk slam. Sarita looked somewhat competitive, attempting to get around Kong’s strength by utilising her speed and agility, hitting a series of dropkicks to Kong, sending her through the ropes to the outside. Sarita attempted to hit a plancha to the outside, however Kong caught her and flung her into the guardrail, garnering a “holy sh*t!” chant from those at ringside. Awesome Kong finally put both women out of their misery, reversing a springboard hurricaranna attempt from Saeed into a huge Awesome Bomb, retaining her title in the process. The champ then scooped Saeed up once more and delivered a fallaway slam over the top rope, smirking sickly at the camera as she raised her title in victory.

Backstage, we also got an interview with the TNA World X Division Champion, The Amazing Red and his manager Don West, fresh off the victory and subsequent unmasking of Suicide. West announced that perhaps Kazarian should have kept his mask on, because he now understands what was so marketable after seeing the state of Kaz’s face. The cockiness continued before West announced that next week they continue with the exposition of the X Division as The Amazing Red defends his title against Shark Boy. “Shark Boy, if that really is your name; you better hope that you’re half a star better looking than Kazarian, because you’re going to need all the marketability you can get after you lose your mask.”

In more World X Cup action, fans were treated to explosive tag team action as Rey Bucanero and Ultimo Guerrero of Team Mexico took on Paul London and Brian Kendrick of Team USA, Kendrick making his TNA debut. Tenay and Taz put over the fact that the winning team will win a point for their team, which will position them equal of the scoreboard with Team Great Britain after Nigel McGuinness defeated Dragon Kid from Japan earlier on. There was nothing separating these two teams, as both had plenty of experience tagging with one another. In a high impact, fast paced match up, fans were wowed with both teams' innovative double team manoeuvres, reversals and counter reversals. The crowd chanted “this is awesome” and it was the American team who managed to secure the victory and indeed point for their team, as London hit a reverse STO and Kendrick hit the sliced bread 2 in unison. As the former WWE tag team chamoions celebrated, Tenay announced that next week will see London and Kendrick in action once more, as they take on Susumu Yokosuka and CIMA from Team Japan, whilst Great Britain's Nigel McGuinness does battle with Team Mexico's legendary Mistico.

Backstage once more, this time a dimly lit parking lot, “Pope” D’Angelo Dinero was standing by with Jon Davis and Kory Chavis, the duo dubbed Heltah Skeltah. Dinero, sporting a black silk suit, with a black hat and glasses with diamond encrusted crosses on them, began speaking to the camera, stating that tonight, the Pope collects his earnings, as someone or someones pay their respects. Dinero concluded the segment by stating that “Pope has spoken!” before the darker man, Kory Chavis stated “If you don’t like it, do something about it!” followed up by Jon Davis challenging, “We dare you!” The segment ended with Heltah Skeltah shoving the camera man over and standing above him, fists clenched, and D’Angelo Dinero hollering “everybody’s gotta pay the Pope!”

Back in the ring Mick Foley was standing by with another instalment of his talk segment, Barbed Wire and Thumbtacks: The Mick Foley Show. Foley’s guest this week was ODB. The two had fun, discussing ODB’s parting habits outside the ring, the fans laughing as Foley made light of her unfortunate “white trash” appearance, though it was all very light hearted and in jest. Foley then asked ODB about her run ins with the Beautiful People, ODB responding by saying that whilst the Beautiful People may have their good looks, good looks don’t win championships. As the interview continued, ODB was blindsided by a flying dropkick as Angelina Love had rand down the ramp way and launched herself into the ring. Velvet Sky slid under the bottom rope and the two began beating down ODB, placing a paper bag over her head in the process. The blonde bombshells then turned their attention to Foley, who backed off somewhat, seeming confused. Angelina picked up a microphone and suggested that not only does this whole Division, this whole crowd need a makeover, but perhaps Foley needs one too. “On second thought, I think it’s safe to say that that ship has sailed.” On that the two rushed Foley, beating him down and pulling at his hair, Velvet Sky scratching at Foley’s face and eyes. The crowd were amazed at how brutal the Beautiful People were, Love pulling off her high heeled boot and digging it into Foley’s scalp. The two then placed a paper bag over Mick’s head as the crowd booed the Beautiful People out of the arena.

After a video package hyping the move to live television and the partnership with Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, we went back to ringside as former World Elite leader Eric Young had requested a match with his former stablemate Homicide as the two had a heated confrontation after losing in the handicap street fight at Turning Point this past Sunday. The match was a slugfest from the get go, Young looking to redeem himself after being knocked out cold by Homicide at Turning Point. Young struggled to gain any sort of offence though, and it was Homicide who dominated the match with an array of suplexes and a running lariat. Tenay and Taz referred to Homicide as Notorious 187, citing his brutal stomping and mounted punches as lessons learned on the streets. Homicide ended the encounter as fans chanted his name, hitting the Da Gringo Killa for the three. Homicide then threw Young from the ring, before celebrating on the top rope, pulling a knife and fork out of his boot and scraping them against one another as Young lay face down on the outside.

TNA iMPACT! also saw the return of Frankie Kazarian, who after being demasked by The Amazing Red this past Sunday at Turning Point, was onhand to address the iMPACT! Zone for the first time in quite sometime as himself. Kazarian, appearing somewhat deflated about what had happened, made his way to the ring wearing jeans and a TNA t-shirt, his trademark ponytail looking no different than when he originally “left”. The crowd automatically started chanting “Thank you Kaz!” Kazarian stating that it’s good to be back. Kaz stated that whilst under the mask, he hadn’t felt as held back by those upstairs since his time with the WWE. Kaz called the Suicide character a joke and a deliberate attempt by TNA management to undermine both himself and the fans. The fans cheered at this, however were quickly cut off. “And you all bought into it”. Kazarian change his tune, and began to state that the only reason he remained under the mask is because the fans continued buying the merchandise, the t-shirts, the action figures and the imitation masks. “The only reason I wasn’t able to be free earlier, was because of all of you. You all wanted me to remain trapped in the ocean of mediocrity.” Boos filled the iMPACT! Zone, as Kaz continued on, stating that he was somewhat glad he lost at Turning Point, because it made him realise the bigger picture. That there was life outside the X Division, Kaz wanted to join the race for the TNA Heavyweight Championship of the World.

The crowd booed even more, as the familiar music of “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe filled the arena. Joe, also not dressed to wrestle, climbed into the ring and called for a mic. The former number one contender welcomed Frankie Kazarian back, stating that he always new he had potential to be right up there with the best in this company, agreeing that the stupid gimmick was holding him back. “You’re right to blame the fans, Frankie, but there were plenty of people backstage who didn’t want you to shine either. And you know who the biggest Kaz-basher of all was? Your good friend AJ Styles.” Samoa Joe began alleging that it was AJ Styles’ idea all along to put Kaz under the mask, in a deliberate attempt to keep him out of the picture, stating “there was always one guy who seemed to be able to match Styles in that ring, Frankie, and that was you. You knew it. I knew it, and more importantly, AJ knew it. It was him Frankie; he was the one who put you under that mask, to keep you out of his way when he was chasing a shot at the belt.”

The crowed chanted “f**k you Joe” before they roared as the familiar music of the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles filled the iMPACT! Zone and the champ began storming to the ring, dressed in jeans, t-shirt and belt draped over his shoulder. Styles called for a mic and demanded the people in production cut his music. “I can’t believe the crap I’m hearing coming out of your mouth Joe!” Styles stated, claiming that Joe’s words were that of jealousy and deceit, the champ alleging Joe was still bitter about losing on Sunday night. Styles claimed that Joe was only trying to fill Kazarian’s head with lies so that he would turn him against AJ, because Joe could not beat Styles on his own. The champ followed up by saying “yeah Frankie, the idea probably wasn’t the best, but you made plenty of waves through the company with it, the matches with Dinero, the X Division title reign, the merchandise sales. Frankie, if you look where you were before you put the mask on, if anything, it’s helped you move forward as a wrestler, as a competitor.” Kazarian stared at both Joe and Styles, as if not knowing who to believe before dropping his mic and heading back up the aisle. Joe then turned to Styles “I’m not done with you either AJ, not by a long shot” before heading back up the ramp after Kaz. The segment ended with AJ standing somewhat worried about the potential danger Joe’s mind games could have on his once good friend.

iMPACT!’s main event got under way with a hiss an a roar, as the team of “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan and Hernandez went up against “Cowboy” James Storm and Robert Roode of Beer Money, Inc. in a match to determine the number one contenders for the TNA World Tag Team Championships. The match was your typical methodical “face” tag team encounter, with all four men looking to chip away at the other opponents, without resorting to any dirty tactics. As expected, the power of Morgan and Hernandez gave them an early advantage, however it was the experience and tenacity of Beer Money which kept them in the encounter, reversing a Hernandez lariat attempt into a Samoan drop/neck breaker double team manoeuvre. It looked, however, that Morgan and Hernandez would be crowned number one contenders, after Morgan planted Roode with the Carbon Footprint, sending him to the outside, leaving Cowboy isolated in the centre of the ring. However, Hernandez made the Cardinal sin of taking too much time to set up his finishing manoeuvre, the Border Toss, allowing Storm to wriggle his way out of it, nailing the Last Call to pick up the victory. The new umber one contenders headed up the ramp way, celebrating their win, with Morgan helping up his fallen team mate. As the two began to leave, the lights went out. When they came back on the crowd gasped in shock as both Morgan and Hernandez were being assaulted by Jon Davis and Kory Chavis of Heltah Skeltah, with Dinero barking instructions at his two henchmen. Security flooded to ringside as the two were beaten to a bloody pulp, Dinero not calling his men back until they had reached ringside and the three fled through the crowd to escape the scene of the crime. As iMPACT! closed out, cameras focussed on the carnage in the ring, with Tenay and Taz claiming that once again TNA iMPACT! had come to a shocking conclusion. “What’s going to happen December 31st, Taz?”

World X Cup update; Jericho-TNA?; Just where is Abyss?

On a recent edition of TNA Today, TNA ran a special highlighting the World X Cup performers, profiling each team and giving fans an insight into the competitors.

The full teams are as follows:

Team USA: Paul London, Brian Kendrick, Consequences Creed
Team Great Britain: Nigel McGuinness, Doug Williams, Robbie Brookside
Team Mexico: Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero
Team Japan: Dragon Kid, Susumu Yokosuka, CIMA

It would appear that Yokosuka and CIMA are appearing as part of the talent exchange TNA have with Dragon Gate.

It is also interesting to note that Brookside has indeed signed a contract to work the World X Cup with TNA, and insiders are saying this will act as a trial for potentially more work.

Doug Williams is a big supporter of Robbie Brookside, and the two will work as a team in the World X Cup.

Currently the table stands as:

USA 1
Great Britain 1
Japan 0
Mexico 0

There are also some rumblings amongst dirt sheeters that Chris Jericho has been approached by TNA.

The former world champion has been on the outer with WWE officials since having a very public incident with a female fan who claimed Jericho had strucken her.

Jericho was rumoured to join the company in 2005, though recently has hit out at internet speculation since Hogan signed with the company citing that he wishes "TNA the best on their future endevours".

Jericho's contract runs out at the end of January, there is no word as to if he has signed a new one.

In other news, many have been wondering just what the status of TNA talent Abyss is.

Abyss has not featured on television for over a month, though sources within the company have stated that he is still with the company, though is taking a break from action for some R&R, as well as freshen up whilst creative comes up with something for him.

TNA press conference: New pay per view schedule and television programming; Hogan's tour wraps up
Monday 7th December

In a spot press conference called today, TNA President Dixie Carter confirmed reports of an altered pay per view schedule.

Carter put to rest the rumours that TNA was not happy with producing a pay per view each month, announcing that TNA had not renewed its contract, set to end this month.

Carter instead announced that the company will run a pay per view every second month, beginning in February with Against All Odds.

To make up for this, the TNA President appeared ecstatic in announcing that TNA will broadcast a three hour live edition of iMPACT! in the place of the pay per view, which will instead run on a Monday night, setting up a huge showdown with the WWE.

Carter could neither confirm nor deny wether this was an attempt to test the Monday ngiht market out, though one can only speculate that with Hogan and Bischoff at the helm, that there must be some truth to this.

The three hour iMPACT!s will be dubbed "Maximum iMPACT!" and are expected to run as supercards of sorts, though eventually building toward the pay per view.

The schedule for 2010 is as follows:

January: Maximum Impact I (Spike TV)
February: Against All Odds (PPV)
March: Maximum Impact II (Spike TV)]
April: Lockdown (PPV)
May: Maximum Impact III (Spike TV)
June: Slammiversary (PPV)
July: Maximum Impact IV (Spike TV)
August: Sacrifice (PPV)
September: Maximum Impact V (Spike TV)
October: Bound For Glory (PPV)
November: Maximum Impact VI (Spike TV)
December: Final Resolution (PPV)

In another massive announcement, TNA President Dixie Carter also announced a partnership with TNT, who used to broadcast Monday Nitro.

Carter was pleased to say that beginning next month TNT will broadcast an hour of exclusive and original TNA wrestling programming which will highlight the Knockouts and X Divisions.

The show is expected to be dubbed "xPLOSION!".

In other news, Hulk Hogan has returned from the Hulkamania Australian tour as was seen in Los Angeles yesterday.

There is still no official word when he or Bischoff will show up in TNA, though it is expected that the latter will debut sometime this month to hype up Hogan's arrival, which will surely occur on the live debut, December 31st.

TNA iMPACT!
Thursday 10th December

TNA iMPACT! opened up this week with “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe, who made his way out to the arena dressed in jeans and a plain black t-shirt to a chorus of boos from the TNA faithful. Joe, sporting the same sarcastic smirk he’s been wearing for the past month and a half, grabbed a microphone and proceeded to insult the crowd in the iMPACT! Zone, calling them “AJ” marks who wouldn’t know what a true champion looked like if he walked up with an “I’m Bret Hart” sign around his neck. Joe stated that at Turning Point, he had AJ Styles beat, but in a lucky turn of events, Styles was able to escape in the nick of time. “Lucky, AJ. Not phenomenal. Not awe inspiring. Lucky.” The champ went on to claim that given another shot, there is no way “The Samoan Submission Machine” would lose, and next week he gets the opportunity to once again to battle with AJ Styles, after he defeats Hernandez. “And I’ll show AJ, Hernandez, the entire world, and especially my good friend Frankie Kazarian what a true champion is made of.” The crowd booed heavily, but rejoiced when Joe was cut off by the familiar music of TNA World Heavyweight Champion, “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. Styles, also dressed in attire not suitable for wrestling, cut straight to the chase, stating that Samoa Joe is, has been, and always will be jealous of his success. “I got here on my own, Joe. I busted my ass to be where I’m at. I’ve proven that time and time again to doubters, doubters like Christian Cage. Doubters like Kurt Angle. Doubters like Sting. And doubters like you.” Styles went on to state that should Samoa Joe beat Hernandez next week on iMPACT! it only means that AJ Styles will once again have to step up to the plate and prove once more why he is the best athlete in this business today. “And as for Frankie, Joe, you stay away from him. He has nothing to do with this.” Joe smirked once more, retaliating by saying that Frankie was a big boy and can play with whoever he wants. “And if Kaz wants to roll with a true champion, and see how true champions get things done, then who are we to stand in the way of him?” Joe’s feigned democratic response did not run smooth with Styles who berated him off mic as The Samoan Submission Machine headed backstage, whilst the fans cursed his manipulative nature.

The first match got underway after a commercial break as Paul London and Brian Kendrick, representing Team USA, did battle with Susumu Yokosuka and CIMA, representing Team Japan, in World X Cup action. London and Kendrick, hot off their victory against Mexico’s Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero, looked extremely confident as they blasted their opponents with an array of fast paced innovation and awe inspiring offensive manoeuvres. Their opponents, though equally innovative and at times seeming more hungry, especially when they nailed London and Kendrick with stereo springboard suicide shooting star presses to the outside, were unable to avenge Dragon Kid’s loss to Nigel McGuinness last week, as Paul London was able to pin Yokosuka with the 450 Splash and send Team USA to the top of the ladder, sitting on 2 points.

Backstage we saw Rob Van Dam stretching backstage, an ode to previous segments in his early WWE career. “Mr. Thursday Night” seemed relaxed and focus, however stopped his pre match routine when the TNA World Tag Team Champions Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, of the Motor City Machine Guns, entered the camera’s view, the cocky champs sniggering at Van Dam’s warm up regime. Shelley was first to take a stab at the former ECW champion, suggesting that he sell his moniker to him as he’s going to need the cash to fund facial reconstruction when the Motor City Machine Guns kick his head off in tonight’s main event. Sabin followed up by stating that tonight, the torch gets passed, and Van Dam can crawl back into the cave he came out of as Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin continue to prove everybody wrong and revolutionise this business. Van Dam responded to the Guns, sarcastically claiming their confidence was impressive, even going as far as saying they could get a job on Sci Fi with that amazing charisma. “For your information, Chris Sabin is it? Whatever, for your information, I was revolutionising this business before revolutionising this business became a gimmick. And you, Alex Shelley? It’s not important; I was kicking heads off before you needed a tag team partner to hold your hand to do so!” Embarrassment climbed its way on to the Guns’ faces, with Sabin suggesting they’ll show exactly why they’re Detroit’s finest when they make an example out of Beer Money, Inc. in tonight’s six man main event; with Shelley following up by saying Daniels will do the same with Van Dam. “See you in the ring, old man!” Shelley said as the Guns cockily strutted out of the camera’s view, with Van Dam looking a tad surprised with how quickly wound up Shelley and Sabin got, before we headed back down to ringside.

In the second match of the evening, we saw Daffney take on Angelina Love in a bout set to determine the number one contender to Awesome Kong’s TNA Knockouts Championship. The match was a fairly even contest with both women able to use their unique offensive manoeuvres to gain short spells of advantage. Daffney hitting a flying hurricaranna as well as a single knee face breaker whilst Love hit snapmere/dropkick combination, followed up with a modified camel clutch, only for Daffney to reach the ropes. It was Angelina Love, however, who was able to pick up the victory, after her Beautiful People tag team partner Velvet Sky was able to distract the referee long enough for Love to spray perfume into Daffney’s eyes, temporarily blinding her and enabling Love to roll her up for a cheap victory. Both Beautiful People proceeded to lay boots into the defeated Daffney, before ODB hit the ring to a chorus of cheers, chasing of the Beautiful People as Angelina Love dropped the paper bag they had prepared for Daffney. ODB helped Daffney up, only for the disappointed Knockout to push ODB out of the way in frustration at her loss, ripping up the paper bag as she shrieked down the camera and headed up the ramp way, visibly upset at the events that had just transpired. Taz announced that Angelina Love will make her challenge for Awesome Kong’s title next week, right here on iMPACT!

TNA iMPACT! this week also saw TNA World X Division Champion The Amazing Red defend his title against the unique character that is Shark Boy. The match was a one sided affair with Red dominating the bout with his superior speed and knowledge of the ring, hitting Shark Boy with a tilt awhirl head scissors takedown combine with a DDT, followed up with a corkscrew 540 senton. Shark Boy did manage to mount a small comeback, as Red and his agent Don West took time showboating to the crowd, hitting a Steve Austin-like Lou Thesz pres followed up with mounted punches and an elbow drop with the fin taunt. However, after Shark Boy attempted to hit the Chummer, Red managed to push Shark Boy away, with Don West nailing Shark Boy with a steel chair, forcing the referee to ring the bell and call for a disqualification. Both West and Red then beat down Shark Boy, however after attempting to rip his mask off, “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal stormed to the ring, running off the champion and his agent, as Don West shouted “Neither of you hold any market value” whilst Lethal helped the unlucky challenger to his feet.

Backstage, “JB” Jeremy Borash caught up with the victorious Team USA World X Cup squad, including Consequences Creed and the tag team of Paul London and Brian Kendrick who last week defeated Mexico’s Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero, along with beating Japan’s Susumu Yokosuka and CIMA. All three seemed ecstatic, with London commenting that this was a new era in X Division wrestling, with Team USA seeking to bring back the fire and passion when they win the World X Cup. The festivities were cut short, however, when Nigel McGuinness, Doug Williams and Robbie Brookside of the British World X Cup entered the frame. McGuinness called London and Kendrick’s performances spirited but ultimately useless as they have yet to face the strength and technical prowess of the British. “When Team Britain, who have a noticeable size, strength and technical ability advantage, demolish Team USA, we will see who the new face of the X Division is, and it won’t be Cheech, Chong or Chris Tucker.” McGuinness went further, suggesting that just like its government, the American World X Cup team are reckless and arrogant, closing the segment by inviting the Americans to watch his match with some masked crackpot called Mistico, which is up next. Tenay and Taz were quick to point out that Mistico is no crackpot, and this should be a very interesting bout.

World X Cup action got underway as Britain’s Nigel McGuinness did battle with Mistico of Team Mexico. The match began with a hiss and a roar, both wrestlers exchanging arm drags, hip tosses, reversals and counters as they sought to dominate one another. McGuinness gained advantage first, hitting a series of European uppercuts, driving Mistico into the corner and hitting a hammerlock into a singe arm DDT. McGuinness attempted to ground the legendary luchadore, locking in a scissored armbar, only for Mistico to reach the ropes. Nigel continued to dominate, only for Mistico to reverse a powerslam with a flowing arm drag and following it up with a springboard twisting crossbody, for two. “Mistico” chants filled the arena as he started to gain momentum, nailing McGuinness with a superkick, followed up with leg trip sunset flip powerbomb, only for Nigel McGuinness to wriggle out of the manoeuvre, evade a running attack with a headstand in the corner, and hitting a jawbreaker lariat, to pick up the victory for Great Britain, as they join Team USA at the top of the World X Cup ladder with two points. As the crowd roared in approval of the X Division action, Tenay announced that next week it will be a Team Japan versus Team Mexico special, as all World X Cup matches will feature bouts between these two teams.

Homicide was also present at this week’s edition of iMPACT! and after a video package hyping TNA’s partnership with Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, as well as its live debut on New Years Eve, “Notorious 187” made his way down to ringside dressed in his wrestling gear, but both Tenay and Taz made a point in noting that he was scheduled to do battle on this week’s edition. Homicide called for a mic and said for the first time in what seems to have been an eternity he is excited to be part of this company. “The past two years, the politics, the bullsh*t, it means nothing, because we are going live, and that means that no one back there, NO ONE, can control what Homicide says on the mic or does in the ring!” Homicide garnered a decent reaction from the crowd, however this livened when Homicide announced that next week, TNA’s new executive producer, will be out here in this very ring on TNA iMPACT! for the very first time, and that man’s name, is Eric Bischoff! “Eazy E, I’ve made it clear that no one is going to hold Homicide back from doing what he does in TNA Wrestling, and next week, when you bring your ass out here in front of all these people, you can bet your ass Notorious 187 is gonna be out here too!” Homicide finished off with a “Brrrrrrrrrrat, Pop Pop!” before his theme music boomed and we headed to a commercial.

The fifth match of this week’s edition of iMPACT! saw Jon Davis and Kory Chavis of Heltah Skeltah take on The Young Gunns, Nick and Matt in tag team action. In an entirely one sided affair, Davis and Chavis used their size and strength advantage to make short work of their opponents, nailing a variety of suplex and power manoeuvres, as well as vicious strikes whilst “The Pope of Harlem” D’Angelo Dinero berated the Young Gunns and fans at ringside. After hitting the powerbomb/neck breaker combination, which Mike Tenay dubbed “Respect Collection”, it was Kory Chavis who collected the pinfall on a semiconscious Matt Gunn. Post match, D’Angelo Dinero entered the ring and began laying into both Gunn brothers with dress shoed stomps, only for “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan and Hernandez to hit the ring and make the save, forcing Heltah Skeltah to retreat back to the locker room, much to the delight of the crowd.

Backstage “JB” Jeremy Borash was standing by in the interview pit once more, this time alongside the freshly unmasked Frankie Kazarian, who last week on iMPACT! was the subject of a dispute between TNA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles and his rival, “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe. Kazarian commented that he stands by what he said last week and wants to show the world that he is worthy of main event status. “I want to prove myself to everybody out there that Kaz is ready for the big time, and am willing to do whatever it takes to reach the top.” “Whatever it takes?” Just then Kaz was joined by one of those men in question, Samoa Joe. “Whatever it takes Frankie? Well if I were you I’d take a good long look in the mirror and ask yourself exactly what, or indeed, whom that entails.” Joe commented that if Kaz wants to reach the top, he needs allies, because as bad as it sounds, Frankie did not have what it takes to reach the top of the mountain on his own. “You’re talented, Frankie, no one’s denying that. But in this business, talent on its own means jacksh*t. You need people beside you, Frankie, people to guide you, people to provide you with advice, and people to help you, should you need it.” Joe followed up by denouncing AJ Styles. “He’s a selfish champion, Frankie. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. People like you and I, we need to stick together. Think about it. I’ll see you around.” The Samoan Submission Machine left the camera’s view with both Kaz and JB having somewhat puzzled looks left on their faces.

iMPACT!’s six man tag main event got underway as Rob Van Dam, teaming up with “Cowboy” James Storm and Robert Roode of Beer Money, Inc. did battle with “Mr. TNA” Christopher Daniels as well as Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin of the Motor City Machine Guns. The bout appeared heavily anticipated by the fans in the iMPACT! Zone, as they got behind RVD, who quickly showed what he was capable of, matching Alex Shelley’s speed and evasiveness as they traded manoeuvres. RVD and Beer Money dominated the early goings, making use of innovative tandem offence as well as quick tags, Beer Money hitting a Samoan Drop/knee breaker combination, followed up with Rolling Thunder from Rob Van Dam. Things switched a gear when Alex Shelley was able to distract the referee which allowed Christopher Daniels to enter the fray and jump Robert Roode from behind, successfully convincing the ref that he had made the tag. The self proclaimed “Mr. TNA” began working over Roode, picking apart the Beer Money member pie e by piece, Mike Tenay drawing reference on more than one occasion to the way he did the same to Kurt Angle. Daniels looked likely to win the match on one occasion after hitting an exploder suplex, though James Storm made the save. After all three men ganged up on Robert Roode further on during the match, Rob Van Dam and James Storm hit stereo superkicks on Christopher Daniels, only for the Machine Guns to hit stereo superkicks on both RVD and Cowboy. This was followed up by a double reverse Russian legsweep on the Guns, only for Daniels to hit a release German suplex, a run of wrestling which caused fans to leap to their feat in awe! After exchanging offence and momentum for the remainder of the match up, the finish came when Robert Roode and James Storm attempted to hit the Driving While Investing on Daniels, only for the Motor City Machine Guns to pull Daniels down and hit double dropkicks, sending Storm to the corner and Roode to ringside. The Guns then hit a double dropkick combination to Roode at ringside, only for Rob Van Dam to nail both with a Rolling Thunder over the top rope to land on both of the Guns. With four out of six out of the match, James Storm attempted to hit the Last Call, only for Christopher Daniels to catch his leg and roll him up, stealing a victory for him and his team mates. iMPACT! came to a close with the Motor City Machine Guns and Christopher Daniels heading back up the ramp way, ecstatic with the upset, Roode, Storm and Van Dam hurting in the centre of the ring.

Liking the recent developments, particularly the return of the World X Cup. It's one of my favorite concepts in pro wrestling, and I don't think it's ever been used to its fullest potential by TNA in real life.
