So I was cleaning the house the other day and I finally decided to stick on my Headbangers Ball 2 CD.

Well, upon close listening, it confirmed what I had always thought - that Hardcore and it's closely associated genres is complete turd.

I really hate this genre. Bands like Hatebreed, Sevendust, Il Nino, the Deftones etc etc. It's all rubbish. I hear nothing within the music that either seperates one band from the other or makes me thing "Wow" great musicianship.

The one band that I elevate above the crowd is Killswitch Engage who incorporate some very good melodic death metal elements with their twin guitars.

Other than that, it's all crap.

When someone says to me that they listen to metal, I ask what bands and they start rattling off all of this hardcore sh*t, I can't understand why of all the briliant metal genres they've chosen the most pathetic.

That is all, rant over.

Immortal kicks arse.

Deftones were decent back in the day. Around the fur was a damn good album, i wouldn't listen to it much these days though...

Just heard Down's latest the other day, Phil Anselmo still has some awesome pipes.

Heard Parkway Drive? They have some decent songs (especially its hard to speak without a tounge).
And most harcore is sh*t yes, however some hardcore punk is good (sick of it all, minor threat, black flag)

I recommend Immortal. No punk influences whatsoever and any hardcore band that walked in the room while Immortal was playing would instantly combust and turn into a pile of ash.

But seriously, get your hands on some Opeth. I recommend their latest Ghost Reveries. Or Blackwater Park. My favourite is Morningrise but I don't think it's entr level Opeth and has more of a melodic death metal sound with black metal undertones than their later stuff, although it still has the constant changes throughout each song. And the last track, To Bid You Farewell, is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

My goal in life is to gradually convert people to metal

Back in my teen years where I thought Bizkit and Sevendust were "heavy", I loved those guys. Since then I haven't enjoyed them at all.

Hatebreed...They get me pumped up, but truthfully they're pretty poor. And all their songs are like 2 minutes long.

As for KSE...They may not be metal, but I think their talent is obvious to see. They always have good melodies to their stuff and their singer, imo, is great.

Mind you - Opeth and Devin kick arse.

I don't think Sh*tswitch Engage are any better than Hatebreed or Parkway Drive or any other 'tuff' hardcore bands. They all bore me to tears. KSE did a great job of butchering Holy Diver also. Can never forgive them for that.

I don't see how KSE are a "tough" 'core band - unlike Hatebreed, whose lyrics are all "f**k this" and "death to that", KSE vary their lyrical content. In fact, some of their lyrics are downright positive.

Never really dug 'core either... although I always liked Suicidal Tendencies and they genrrally got pigeonholed as "Crossover" (ie a thrash/hardcore hybrid). But in retrospect they wer kinda like Faith No More, one of those bands who can kinda stand alone without the need to pigeonhole them.

Yeah just like Roddy Bottum from Faith No More, nobody in the band considered his sexuality an issue at all.
