Todd Carney gone

Todd Carney is joining the Catalans Dragons, the club that Mick Potter used to coach and that Trent Robinson used to coach, which is also the club that produced the Sydney Roosters' try scoring freak prop Remi Casty. Todd Carney has signed a three year contract. He may even be offered the captaincy.

He will be joining Willie Tonga, Michael Oldfield and the diminutive French dynamo full back Morgan Escare in forming what will be one of the two most potent attacking back lines in Super League.

I called this when he got punted from the Sharks, Catalan were the only viable option in Super League and no one in the NRL would take him.

Good place to live and less of a drinking culture than England and Australia and having to learn the language will give him something to do.

Carney must have consulted with Trent Robinson, who coached him in 2010 at the Sydney Roosters (Trent was assistant coach), in the year that Todd won the Dally M.

It will be interesting to see how he goes trying to learn French. He will have 7 or 8 team mates who speak English as their native language, but as five eighth he will have to communicate with the other 18 French players, not all of whom can speak fluent English. I don't see how they can make him captain with the language handicap. Better to have someone like Olivier Elima, who is bilingual, as captain, and get someone like Jason Baitieri (French born and also fluently bilingual) to push Toddy to work hard on his French.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the great Ben Pomeroy play for them too?

You are right about Pomeroy playing for them but not about Pomeroy being great. He is probably the slowest centre in Super League. With Willie Tonga coming over, Pomeroy might not get a first choice selection in the centres in 2015, because the bullocking French centre he now partners, Vincent Duport, is a more powerful attacking player than Pomeroy, and faster.

See Duport set up Escare's first try, and Pomeroy plodding up field after an intercept:

Remi should have three tries to his name because he scored a legitimate try last weekend that was wrongly denied as a double movement.

Most props don't score any tries, and others get just one a year.

Sorry to inform you of this but disallowed tries don't count towards stats.

Todd Carney what a coup - thats just what a game struggling for attention in France needs.. a completely unreliable #&^%wit.

At least it means i dont have to worry about the next time he embarrasses our great game locally

the RFL have let carney in but with severe conditions...like

The conditions include the placing of a £50,000 bond which will be payable should Todd Carney breach RFL Operational Rules or be convicted of a criminal act.
