A lot was made of his off field dramas but I think injuries really killed his on-field game anyway. Without a threatening running game he definitely wasn't the same player. He was seriously good at one point and he'd still be a good signing for a few clubs even now (he's certainly better than Sandow and Kelly), but I don't think he'd offer an upgrade over Norman; I'd rate them at about the same level now.

He was the best player in the NRL in 2010. I've been watching him for LeCatalans and he is killing it over there. He'd be a big upgrade on Norman.
Probably not going to happen anyway but it'd be great if we signed him.

Locke could be massive under Arthur, really is a wasted talent.

Thought Bevan look ok today, seem to position himself pretty good for a young player.

What makes you say that? Or do you mean 'massive' as in fatter than he is now?

I'm serious! We all know Locke has weight issues. And why would Arthur be able to improve Locke's game?

Obviously I have a different opinion to some and think Arthur is doing an ok job - and can improve a player. Look at Sandow ( yes he has been dropped but I still reckon he has improved under Arthur ) and Hayne ( had a massive 2014). And according to players he is very honest / up front with his team.

Locke has talent but probably lacks dedication/has attitude issues. Arthur could probably give a reality check, and get him to improve. Obviously it's up to whether Locke really wants to succeed or not, but some honesty from a coach would go a lot way.

Also I reckon our attack - the sweeping backline movement would suit someone with lockes speed / attacking ability.

Barba was the best player in the game in 2012. Wouldn't touch the imbecile with a 40 foot poll.

Barba has been played out of position over the past two years. He's played pretty good when given a run at fullback. Besides Barba is not Carney. Watch some of Carney playing now, he looks full of confidence and back to some of his best form. yes he's a complete dope. But he'd be great with Foran.

Would be good to see Carney, Dugan and Ferguson in the same backline (could throw in Monaghan, but he's actually not a bad bloke). Can you imagine being the team manager. You'd not get much sleep.

He'll have to at some point, or the NRL will find itself in court, and will likely lose. If it looks like a life ban for pretending to widdle in his own mouth (on top of his previous exemplary record), it won't be too hard to argue that a lengthy effective ban is manifestly excessive. If he attempted to sign a pre-June 30 contract, the NRL would have some thinking to do.

Once Packer is allowed to return to the NRL, you would imagine that if they block Carney from playing then they will be a joke.

I think we just need to accept this year is a re-building year - our halves are pretty much settled for next year it's Foran and Norman - not a bad combo and additionally they can defend. There is no need to look for another half, we need to look for a fulback

Norman is also a poor defender. He just hasn't looked as bad a defender at Parra because Sandow is in the same team. If Norman is now going to be the weakest defender in the team he will get alot more exposed.

In fairness to Monaghan he did one bad thing on the drink one time, other than that he's a pretty decent bloke as you say.

It reminds me of the story of Abdul from Iraq who was talking to someone and said "Look, I built that massive boat over there, but do they call me Abdul the boat builder? No! I also painted the outside of the great big mosque over there, but do they call me Abdul the painter? Never! I even built the large parliament builder, but do they call me Abdul the builder? Not once! But...I f$%k just one goat!"

If not Hayne I'd sign Gordon until French is ready or try and get someone like Kevin Locke.

I was impressed with this French kid yesterday. He shows some potential. I think they should keep him at Wenty from now on.

Between the media scrutiny the Eels have and the media scrutiny Carney will have I doubt very much that he would be a good fit for the club. I am almost certain that a couple of media types live at the club because if someone farts it's on the back page. I don't think Carney would thrive in this environment.

Yep, I like this variant of the joke, from Dylan Moran:

I wouldn't say Carney nor foran are the dominant half in their teams

With the exception of when Carney was a young player at the Raiders and Jason Smith was there, I don't think Carney has ever not been the dominant player in his team.

Fair point, although with Foran in the team and the money he is going to be on, you would think there will be more pressure on him than Carney.

You would think that but no. Carney would be hounded mercilessly by the media regardless of who is at the club. Foran, if he doesn't perform will be hounded. Carney will just have to get a kebab on the way home from training and the bloke will have been out on the piss all night and just getting home...
