I was just interested to know what you roosters think of Todd Payten.I must say I was surprised when you let him go,I thought he was your best prop, and so do some mates of mine that are mad rooster fans.

I am happy we have him,as I have always rated him, just wanted to hear your side...maybe some info on his play.I always thought he was a good metre man with an offload.

Cheers.

Thanks Miss Pittstop,as gracious as ever. ;-)

I rate him too,Im wondering if the cap and his inury meant he was the first on the chopping block.Ive heard he will be back near the start of the season, about round 2-4.

Cheers again.

One more question, what do you perceive as his weaknesses???Id be interested to know.

He's a tough bastard thats for sure. I would say the only thing that I've noticed is that there have been times he's dropped the ball. Apart from that he's a big guy and I would think that his weight could be an issue.

I honestly don't know why he was chosen for the chop !!

And as we've done with other cheap buys like Robinson, Catic, and to a degree Cayless, we'll turn Crouchie and Dorn into great first graders as well. We have the best business team in the league, getting bargain buys and then the best training team in the game, dragging their potential out of them.

I'm sure that Dorn came at a song price - sixpence..and crouch would come under the Premiership salary cap - could be wrong - but again I bet he cost a lot...

Payten's biggest problem is weight - he always struggled to kep it down even when he was with the Raiders.

There is also a young champion in the making who will play first grade this year - keep an eye out for him - Shillington

The loss of Payten is one of the reasons the Roosters want the cap increased. Here is an example of a player who wanted to stay at the Roosters and the Roosters wanted to keep him but because of the archaic cap we had to let him go. :x

well he's alright - won't play for australia!! but a fair player and will suit the team he is going too for strength. He would have to be better than the props you had last year

Unfortunately, the story for Payten has always been that he could be one the best props in the game but hasnt had the motivation to do so. He seems more interested in partying than training. The weight issues that he has had are a product of a lack of desire to achieve his potential.

However, he is still is the only prop I have ever seen throw a perfect 25m cut out pass to a centre hitting a gap but do clubs really need a prop with good ball skills?

I hope that Sheens (the coach that gave him his debut in 94 at the age of 16 or so) can whip him into shape, but after about 5 years of this talk I have serious doubts.
