Tonight I'm glad I'm a Dragons man...

After seeing the bulldogs capitulation tonight to a second rate side I couldn't help but think back twelve months to when we were where they are now. Remember sending our premier league squad out against the broncos? That game was pretty much our highlight of a pretty inept year of re-building but I stuck by my team AND my coach because I knew that we would rise again. The dogs fans tonight however couldn't get out of ANZ fast enough tonight. Then they bombarded ABC radio with abusive SMSs about their own team.

I'd hate to think we would ever be so blind as to be so negative on our team when we are in a low place and struggling to get better...

When was this?

I'm delighted to be a Saints supporter. But not because of Canterbury's loss tonight.

Fans venting their feelings is part of the game.

Oh right, you mean this one: http://dragons.leagueunlimited.com/season/2007/report07_12.php

Much better website. :)

1st June 2007

I was there for that match, Jamie Soward's first game for Saints and there was a feeling in the air that we were going to roll the Broncos that day.

Teams:
DRAGONS: 1. Josh Morris, 2. Jason Nightingale, 22. Keith Lulia, 4. Matt Cooper (c), 5. Chase Stanley, 6. Rangi Chase, 7. Jamie Soward, 8. Justin Poore, 9. Simon Woolford, 20. Jason Ryles, 11. Corey Payne, 12. Chris Houston, 13. Ben Creagh
Interchange: 14. Adam Peek, 16. Lagi Setu, 17. Ben Ellis, 18. Rick Thorby
BRONCOS: Karmichael Hunt, Steve Michaels, Darius Boyd, Justin Hodges, Brent Tate, Darren Lockyer (c), Mick Ennis, Ben Hannant, Shaun Berrigan, Petero Civoniceva, David Stagg, Brad Thorn, Tonie Carroll
Interchange: Joel Moon, Greg Eastwood, Dane Carlaw, Corey Parker

Saints have owned the Broncos for a while now.

But for mine, I think the Warriors game in 2002 in Auckland was a great win against the odds.

They did the same again in 2004.

Well my support is hereditary from dad so I never had a choice.
I'm just glad that dad chose the Saints... well he grew up in Rockdale so he never had a choice either. So thanks grandma and grandpa for choosing to live in St George territory.

A Saints fan is a different breed to a Bulldog fan, all the Bulldog supporters i know are arrogant and opinionated loud people, all the Dragon fans i know are humble and at times vocal but supress their opinions to nothing more than a discussion to proove there point.

A dog fan often big notes there team beyond the status of jesus and reflect on the glory days of Lamb and Co to fight any who has the bigger penis discussion and a dragons fan only touches base with the glory days as a final F/U.

This isn't how all these fans are but from my experiences with the blue and white breed it shows me that alot are the same..

Love the Dragons, have done since, was about 17/18.

Gee that was 45 years ago. Went to my first Saints game about 10, but didn't start following them until about 5 years later.

I still remember getting dressed to go to a function when I was about 22, and I was listening to a game on the radio (yes, smart arses, they had radio even back then) and my ex wife was nagging me about wearing the wrong shirt. This came at the wrong time, as Saints had just lost the match, and I literally tore the shirt off, buttons flying everywhere.

Sorry about this uninteresting bullsh*t, just reminiscing.

Like Slackboy72 my support is hereditary from my Dad. It’s just a pity we live in W.A so we can’t go to games, we try and catch most games on Foxtel. I used love seeing the young players coming through the system in Under 23’s or 21’s and Reserve Grade.

Our whole family is passionate Dragons supporters [Mum supports them but doesn’t watch games], even my sister who is only 11. I don’t think a day has gone past where we either of us haven’t had a Dragons piece of clothing on.

Did you guys see the article on the WA family who travel to most of the Dragons games? Another family of supporters. I got my Dragons support from my dad even though we've never lived in the St George area.

I was 4 when I started supporting StGeorge. The rest of the family were Parra supporters. Parra played StGeorge in round 3 of 1975. We beat them 11-3, the rest of the family were bloody annouyed, so I thought, yep thats for me the big rd V.

Each and every day since I have been red and white. 33 years later and going strong.

When Newtown gone belly up, who did he support? Just became a general rugby league fan?
Well like a lot of fans, he went through a stage of complaining about the game in general. He was very disappointed that Newtown didn't put more of a fight (like Wests did at the time) but also blamed those in the NSWRL who shafted Newtown.
He still followed Newtown in the Metro Cup but it wasn't the same.

He was actually a founding member of St George Leagues Club - not because he was a St George supporter but because in 1963 the Taj was a big deal and everyone was trying to sign up. So maybe that helped in the conversion. Plus I made a point of taking him to Kogarah whenever the opportunity presented itself. Now he cheers Saints on when they play well, and bags out on their dumb play like the best of us. :)

He tried to turn me into a Newtown supporter when I was a youngun' but made the mistake of taking me to a Saints v Bluebags match. lol

Btw, my kids are looking forward to the Titans v Saints match next Saturday. They insist they are St George supporters but its always a bit of a worry. ;-)

I was born in Victoria, so my first memories are of supporting Richmond Footy Club - which I do to this day (some pretty lean years to say the least)

In 1982, at the age of 5, my Mum decided to move to NSW with my now step father. I had no idea of Rugby League so I asked who he supported & Mum told me SAINT GEORGE! I took them on then & there.

They have been my church ever since.
