Top 2 teams allergic to the tryline

Penrith and Saints are using up 22 and 25 tackles respectively inside the opposition 20M before posting points, over the last 3 rounds.
Ranking them at the bottom of the NRL.

Are they good at sustaining pressure, or useless at scoring points?

Is Penrith's only option the kick?
Is StGeorge's only option that boring backline play that ends with a D.Boyd forward pass?

To me it seems that other teams have worked them out, improved and gone past them, and the pair of them have peaked too early.

Can either team find that X-Factor that will allow them to strike a blow in September? Probably not.

In all seriousness, what you also seem to miss is in the last three games we've also conceded a total of 36 points. Despite the lapse in form, we're still 7th overall in points scored and 1st in points conceded, having conceded 132 points less than the nearest legitimate team (the Eels).

I find it interesting that Saints seem to be the only team written off when encountering a form slump. This is of course with our slump consisting of a 12-8 loss and an 11-10 loss.

I would like to bet that stat about Saints and the 25 tackles is made up.

In Rds 18-20 we had the bye, played Souths and Titans.
I don't think we would have been tackled in the opposing 20m zone 25 times in total across both of those games.

We had virtually no field position in either match, so I doubt it's correct.
We have scored 4 try's in those 2 matches, so using the average of 25 tackles per try, that means we have been tackled 100 times in the opposition 20 over the last 2 weeks.
Looks to me like the Telegraph is telling fibs again, or it's just poor reporting.

Our points and attack has been poor since the bye though.

Thanks for informing us all of those damning statistics over the last three rounds. Over the first sixteen rounds we were third in attack. So either your assumptions are correct or we could be in a slump, something which teams currently contesting a top eight spot have had, several times. Hmmmm....

deadset it gets so annoying listening to all the dragons /panthers bashing that goes on. If parra made the finals theyd be the ONLY two teams id be worried about playing as they have consistently ( especially the dragons ) been good. What does anyone get out of constantly pointing out their few weaknesses as opposed to the many that other teams have.. Love or hate the two teams because they can only score from kicks or play boring they still win and a win is a win no matter how its achieved. End of rant. Go parra.

or the opposite team needs 89 mins to score one more point in the last 3 weeks?

so yes the opposite teams have worked the dragons out , by cutting down the dragons points and scoring less then the dragons

Penrith really missed both Luke Lewis and Luke Walsh the last 2 weeks and also the go forward of Tim Grant who has been right up there with Petero in his ability to get us quick play the ball. While Penrith's losing run and difficulty in scoring points the last month is a worry, Penrith are still 2nd and still 2nd in points scored this season, so they know they can score tries, even if alot of them came off kicks. The game against Manly proved we can score tries with good ball movement too, we just need all our key players on the field. Any team would struggle without their two best players at creating points, in our case Luke Walsh and Luke Lewis.

It just shows the pressure where the majority of teams who cant handle defence for too long and leak points in.

All teams struggle when their VIPs are out injured, suspended or just slightly out of form. For the Panthers it has been Walsh and Lewis. For the Dragons it is Weyman + a host of players exhausted after Origin and/or returning from injury.

But you don't really want your team peaking too early anyway. I think the thrust of this post is right. Both teams have been a bit flat. But I think the reasons are pretty apparent and I don't think either team has much to worry about at this stage.

Quite frankly the standard isn't great this year and it won't take a super side to win it. Parra is building. Easts and Brisbane attack well but are sketchy defensively. The Tigers are a rabble but have sheer brilliance on their side. Pretty close and interesting comp really.

The stats are idiotic, we've played 3 top 8 sides in that time, had 1 bye which all our players had 8 days off during. 2 of the games were on a wet track and we were missing our starting front row combination, not to mention adding Gasnier into the lineup which has thrown out our backline balance until we get the combinations working. The opposition has only scored 1 more point than us in that time and the sky is falling?

If we're still playing like this in 3-4 weeks then I'd be worried but Bennett coached sides during this period are notorious under-achievers just before the finals. I'm happy for everyone to write us off though, it takes off the pressure a bit.

Individual stats can prove any point you manipulate it for if you don't use some perspective and consider any other stats.

One of our biggest issues has been Priddis, he's really starting to struggle as the season goes on, it's been even more evident since Weyman has been missing. Our service has been slow and he's made some terrible decisions in attack. We get Fien back next week or the week after, that is a huge boost, it'll take a few weeks for him to get his timing back but our running around the ruck and service will increase massively with his return.
