Here we go
Millwall, please explain how your top 5 are those 5, Im very interested to hear??
Pink Floyd where one of my favourite all time bands, however I would never dream of putting Gilmour that high up, even though he was a wonderful guitarist & musician.
Eric Clapton, Id have him in my top 20, however, I don't see what he brought to the guitar as being very prominent, a great guitarist who from what I believe started playing at 20??....so he obviously had great talent to learn & develop his guitar skills, practical & theoretical.
Jimmy Page, yeah he was a great, Id have him in my top 5 ;-) , brought a different style to the guitar & his riffs, solo's & overall general skill influenced millions.
Jimi Hendrix, ummm, I don't know what he brought to the guitar besides over use of a wah pedal to distort his playing, a complete rip off of Chuck Berry yet for some reason gets more accolades then true musicians, struggled to play in time & his solos are just boring, out of time & just basically sounded horrible. As far as Im concerned a great guitarist is one who actually knew the basics of the instrument as well as the complexity side of things, something Jimi's guitar playing didn't have much of.
Angus Young, maybe top 20, very good guitarist, great rhythm & sound lead work..... yep very good indeed, the only problem is we have seen many better guitarists, but Id rate him as probably Australia's greatest.
