Toronto making noise
The new dawn of the Wolfpack rolls on. Toronto will hold a big press conference on Sunday in Liverpool before the Four Nations final. At it they will be annouccing a UK TV broadcast partnership, a kit deal, pre-season friendly fixtures and a high-profile signing. We've been sworn to secrecy, but we can tell you that the player is a big name and he is not British. He is a veteran who will be the biggest name in the Wolfpack squad by far.

They've signed 18 players by my count and this will make 19. That still leaves up to 10 perhaps. Hopefully this is where we'll see some Canadian and American players, either from the tv show or otherwise, get a start.

Either way their first choice side will absolutely batter most teams in League 1. If they handle the travel factor they shouldn't lose a game really.

Is it really doing anything for the game in Canada if a team which is 80-90% British are playing? Its got all the feels of Celtic Crusaders all over again. Bashing teams to get promoted then getting found out with lack of development and home support.

The game in Canada is tiny but growing. And they won't be the first pro sport team in Canada to start up with no/few Canadians. Toronto Raptors would have few if any Canadians and the Toronto Bluejays would be similar. I think people there won't be too bothered. In time there is bound to be some locals make it, even if they end up in SL, and that would be awesome. Crusaders were great for the game in Wales but couldn't pay the bills, which was not necessarily down to not having many local players. As long as the finances aren't a problem this doesn't have to end in the same way.

Can't see it working as even through Toronto have there own oval game being the CFL they are not madly in love with the sport in that city as it's Ice Hockey plus there are a lot of fans of the NFL.

Maybe they should play some kind of hybrid League-Union game. That's the future.

Since 2013 they have played nine Internationals in Toronto and each game drew:
vs USA 7,356
vs Jamaica 3,129
vs England Lions 4,710
vs Royal Air Force 7,356
vs USA 5,176
vs USA 3,128
vs Jamaica 5,700
vs USA 7,200
vs English Lions 5,012

So based off those figures, you would have to suggest there is some decent support there for the game already.

In this video around the 44 min mark Eric Perez (founder/CEO) addresses this.

Toronto another cluttered sporting teams market.
Pie in the sky but shame Rugby League didn't have the cash to do a Vince McMahon and buy the CFL outright and there's your Canadian Rugby League.
Actually Vine McMahon has a bit of the Brian Noble about him.

How is it 'pie in the sky' when it literally happens and exists? Rugby league fans are weird.

It's been reported it's Moimoi and the Leigh connection would support that theory. He'll be 40 next year. Still up to League 1 though I'm sure.

Credit both the European Super League and the Toronto Wolf Pack for expanding the game in new areas unlike the NR, who appear to just twiddle their thumbs why other football codes expand around them.
It reminds me of the saying "Nero fiddled why Rome burnt"
