Toyota Memorable Moments Competition

Has anyone had a crack at the Toyota Memorable Moments competition on AFL.com - http://memorablemoments.afl.com.au/ ?

I'm thinking I'll run with option 1 - The Collingwood vs Carlton GF of 1970.

There's no doubt in my mind that some fab moments were overlooked on account of bloody generation Y voters dominating the weekly selection process!

Honestly, how could the Sheedy Jacket Waving incident make it on to a shortlist of the 15 most memorable moments in the game's history???!!!

While we're at it, how could the Brisbane third GF win make it, when they were the third side in history to achieve the feat?

McCartney retiring after his comeback game was nice enough to be sure, but top 15, give me a break!

And don't even get me started on the Swans into the GF nonsense... How people could, in all conscience, rate Lockett's largely forgotten miskick that night ahead of the folkloric moment when Barry Breen slewed the most famous point in history to snare St Kilda its only premiership (for now)??? Words fail me!!!!

1977 drawn GF anyone??!!

Shiite muslims!!!

People memories tend to remember that they have been sh*t for 120 years rather than that 1 premiership they managed to sneak ;-)

I can't split these 2.

No. 8 - McCartney retires after comeback

&

No. 11 - EJ's last appearance

Special mention to Blights Bomb.

Surely the greatest VFL/AFL moments should, essentially, be game related on-field moments.

No offence to either Teddy or Jason, but football history is rife with heartfelt, tear-jerker stories, just as life in general is.

The sympathy factor will get Teddy across the line for sure though.

On the flip side of that, surely the fact that the Swans have been sh*t for ever and a day had to play a key part in the massive overrating of that Lockett point.

No way known could that have been a more memorable moment than Breen's kick.

In fact, it should rate well down from the tension and emotion surrounding Buckenara's after the siren kick in the 1987 prelim.

Perhaps???

All I know is both Jason and Ted were tough no-nonsence blokes with a hell of alot of guts. Both on and off the field.

While on 1987, I really think Round 22 of that year should have got a look in.

We had Melbourne getting up over the Hounds at the Western Oval to keep the Dogs out of September action, whilst making the finals themselves for the first time in 23 years.

We had Sydney winning a tough one against Fitzroy (8pts) at Princes Park to snare a top three spot.

We had Hawthorn trailing Geelong all day only to fall across the line with a late Dunstall goal that snared them a win by 3 pts and, for a few short moments, had them winning the minor premiership.

Inside two minutes later, we had Carlton rolling North (4pts) with a fab Kernahan goal on the death knell to snare a vital top of the ladder spot going into the finals.

As if that weren't enough, we also had old rivals Collingwood & Essendon playing out a tight 5 pt thriller at the MCG to close out the Home & away season.

Most memorable round, ever.

Of course it did. Nothing happened in Victoria in the 85 years before the Swans and Brisbane came along.

I would argue with you by the way Kev that Ted's death was one of the biggest things to happen in football ever. That one sad event killed SOO footy. Ted's lap around the G on SOO day and the combination of his sad passing and the resulting death of State Football.

SOO & Teddy Whitten's last hoorah? Yeah I would claim that as one of the all time great moments in footy. Even if sad at the same time. EJ epitomised what was great about our game on the field.

Even if off the field was another matter lol

Take some solace in the fact that Sheedy's coat waving didn't win ;-)

I'm not sure if the competition lost all legitimacy when this event won through to the final, or when it actually got put up for nomination to begin with?:-k
