Does anyone know whatever happened to Tim Wilby the Rugby League Roustabout who spent time in the 80's and 90's flitting between the RL comps of both hemispheres. Was often mentioned in the old OPEN RUGBY and R L Week with tales of playing in some new comp under an assumed name to avoid the RL authorities and clearance red tape.

Would be an interesting after dinner speaker for any future function.

I last heard of Tim Wilby around 1998/99 when he was involved with the ex Great Britain Davis Cup tennis player David Lloyd as his go between in the purchase of Hull Sharks (the now re-named Hull F.C. )and Hull City football (soccer) club. He was rumoured to be a property tycoon but also rumoured to be nothing more than a glorified caretaker on a private housing estate. He was believed to have met Lloyd whilst playing golf ,they struck up a conversation and the takeover of the two main Hull sporting clubs was underway.Wilby had played for Hull F.C. in the late 1970`s and early 1980`s ,he scored a try in the all Hull 1980 Wembley Challenge Cup final. This link with the city provided Wilby with his vision of a super stadium shared by Hull F.C. and Hull City. However the fans of both clubs took an instant dislike to Lloyd and his constant threats to close the clubs down if they didn`t let him do as he liked. Wilby meantime had brought in Peter Tunks to help him get Hull F.C. into the SL .They proceeded to bring in Peter Walsh as coach .Walsh was abysmal and the fans were soon on his back . This brought things to a head and Lloyd sold his control in the two teams to other interested parties . Ironically Lloyd and Wilby`s vision is now a reality with the advent of the KC stadium in Hull. Little if anything has been heard of Wilby since .
