Not surprised Trescothick cracked big time after facing Tait, Lee, McGrath etc. 2 games and he was reduced to a bithering mess. Next.

LOL - exactly what i was thinking.

to be fair, he is much better than that as his record indicates

he really must be feeling the strain and I hope for Englands sake, he sorts himself out

Thankyou for stating the obvious.

My question again. How did someone with his obvios lack of mental strength manage to make it through such a tough selection process?

He obviously has the raw talent but doesn't posess the mental strength, I am just wondering why he didn't crack earlier in his career.

what's your definition of mental strength macca? And can you enlighten us as to how you have such an in-depth knowledge of Trescothick?

I hope Marcus gets better

A while back I had stress anxiety attacks, over a 3-4 week period, scariest thing in the world. I couldnt control it whatsoever. If it anything similar to what Marcus is going through, then going home is the best thing for him.

I wish him well, hopefully he can come back and play for Enlgand again. Good player

yup - I don't think comments about mental weakness are particularly insightful.

Never had them myself, but there are many things in life that unless you've experienced it yourself you can't really develop an understanding

So you have no understanding of it? Great, neither do I, which is why originally I asked for people to excuse my ignorance.

What I want to know is how he didn't crack before he got to this level.

I'd prefer answers from people that do understand it.

Try and think with abit more depth, i.e. maybe his stress related illness has little to do with cricket. Reaching test status in cricket doesnt make one immune from mental stress/disorders. I thought that was obvious.

I know the English cricket unit have pointing to continued touring as part of the reason but that could quite easily be a cover. Depression, stress etc should not be taken lightly and can be suffered by anyone.

I dunno if this is right or not, but they said on Vega news that he's going home to get treatment for depression.

Ofcourse it is obvious. Let me rephrase so you might understand.

It seems a strange time for it to finally blow up, my question is why didn't it happen earlier. Seems a strange time for it to happen IMO.

I think it is cricket related though.

that would make alot of sense

it has only ever been reported as stress related, not stress

if it is clinincal depression, it is an illness that needs treatment and nothing to do with being soft or not handling the pressure of international cricket

it can happen to anyone

probably better for england him going home now than him breaking down midway through a test match. i heard on the radio fletcher was considering sending him home anyway.
