From todays NZ Herald:
Marshall says longer Tri-Nations will be boring

08.09.2004

Past and present All Blacks have attacked plans to extend the Super 12 and Tri-Nations.

Halfback Justin Marshall has slammed a longer Tri-Nations as boring.

"For me personally, I'm sick of playing against South Africa and Australia," Marshall said.

Poor Justin, that whinging AB, can't handle being beaten. Poor little Justin should take up bowls.

I agree with "That Guy" I would rather have seen a team from the PI nations

thats it in a nutshell. i doubt very much if aussie can support another team,, i know the south africans couldnt care less.

i would rather see nz lose a team to the PI than make it a super 14.

be interesting to see what crowd figures oz get next year,, 2 years after the cup and intrest will be flagging....

No it wont. The Waratahs and Reds (well moreso the Tahs) have religious followers. Hell we got 10,000 to a game vs. the PI's over a month after the S12 season ended. Their crowds wont suffer. The Canberra crowds tend to support whoever is doing better at the time, the Brumbies or the Raiders. At the moment it's the Brumbies, and it's considered 'trendy' in the ACT to go to the Rugby atm.

That's why it's important for the S14 team to be in Perth, 100,000 South Africans ready to attend...

Sick of getting beaten? NZ has beaten Aus and SA more often than they've beqaten NZ in the last few years.
I totally agree with him. The 3N is verging on boring already. There are plenty of other nations we could be playing tests against. Why not give the Argies and PIs more test expoossure and help get them up to standard? Thisi s just a money grubbing exercise.

<<Both Australia and S.A. are struggling for players as it is (and so are NZ for that matter) so why expand your current bases without looking outside. >>

Australia can always get players from league now so we'll have enough don't worry!

They don't need to.

With the competition so far away, once they decide where the comp. will be, they will be able to target players in the European comp and from the three Aussie teams who will be off contract.

There is at least 2 teams of Aussie players playing overseas who could easily make up a S14 team.

  I think justin Marshall is just saying that the season is too long . Some teams in the NRL fly from Sydney to Brisbane, Townsville, Melbourne and across the Tasman once .
But in Mashall's case now its South Africa three times now and also he has to travel around South Africa and across the Tasman plenty of times .
Marshall has a young family and playing your games around the SH can be a hard and boring with tavel and all .

Gunna Matter , have you been outside of Sydney yet ?

I'm surprised a lot of kiwis are against this, I agree TN is nowhere near as exciting as S12 but it is stupid to have to win two games against the Bledisloe Cup holder to win the series. Best of three is better because you don't feel like you've been ripped off imo.
Also with the S12 expansion I think it should be PI too but how could you fairly add a provincial team - a mix of Samoa, Tonga and Fiji?
I think perhaps another Aus team would be better, agree that another SA team is lame. Promote it more in Oz in the non-Union states so us kiwis over here might get to watch it on free-to-air

lets say my fav comp out of the tri series, super 12 and npc is the NPC and the extended triseries is going to affect that.

and with the bledsloe cup for nz to play two away games in aussie (and vice versa) is a bit biased, why don't they have a pre season game in the country that holds the cup.

Fair call, I suppose NPC is bigger for kiwis at home - we hear nothing about it across the ditch

I am all for the Bledisloe cup being 3 matches, but I really don't think to much of the Tri Nations full being added up. Why not just have a pre Tri Nations match to start off the Bledisloe Cup. Just my thoughts.
