Tri-Series FINAL: West Indies v Australia June 26 2016 Barbados

I used to love the annual tri-series, particularly when Australia were dominant.

Some of the most exciting cricket I've seen was the likes of Shane Bond, Kaluwitharana & Lara try and topple the Aussies as major underdogs. Even winning a single game was a massive deal.

Now you get, as mentioned, 5-7 ODI bore fests on insultingly flat decks.
Getting a ton in those days was gold.

Agreed, bring back the tri series, those 5 or 7 game series are absolute borefests.

Especially against weaker nations

no one was going to the neutral games which I thought was why we ditched the 3 tri series

Not just that, but no (not many) companies were going to invest advertising air time into the other two nation games, this is probably a bigger kill than attendance at the game ie an Australian game might not have a packed stadium, but television revenue would be huge (compared to the non aussie games)

What they should consider at least, is bring back the tri series maybe every 3 years and bring over maybe india/Pakistan or poms/South Africa, so the neutral games would have a lot of appeal

Another thought is share a tri series with NZ? Final at the MCG of course

It generally used to be one decent team and one shit team

India/Pakis and Eng/RSA would be good if they they could swing it
