The week has finally arrived where we get to play again! I've been waiting for this since the Grand Final, it's been a long and hard Off-Season but finally, we'll get to see the mighty Red and green back out there on the park this weekend as we go up against the Cowboys in our first trial game of 2022.

It's a trial so hard to know how the Cowboys will line up but I'm sure it'll be a tough hit out. I think North Queensland are a real chance at improving this year and they'll want to shot that right from the get-go in the trials so our boys are going to have to be on, it'll be a tough contest I have no doubt.

Not really sure how we're going to line up either but JD has stated that no players who played in the Grand Final last year will be playing in this one so I'm assuming it'll be all our young guns and fringe guys in this one. We should still be able to field a pretty strong team and it'll be a great chance for all those guys to show what they can do and stake their claim. Hoping we get an early look at Ilias and it'd be good to see the likes of Taas, Sele and Knight play. We'll see.

Conditions will most likely play their part. It's going to be very hot this time of year up there so it'll be good fitness for the boys and we'll be able to see where they're at in that regard. I know it's a Pre-Season game and it's not the Charity Shield so the result doesn't matter but a win would still be nice. however the main priority is just to show us what you've got and do your best.

Really looking forward to this, our first game for the year. Footy is back baby!!!

Rabbitohs Team List For Cairns Trial Match: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2022/02/15/rabbitohs-team-list-for-cairns-trial-match/

How bloody good is it to have team list Tuesday back?!! Loving it!

I'm also loving the line up we've named for our first trail, it's stronger than I was expecting (didn't think guys like Taaffe, Paulo, Sele would be there etc). Really happy with it and really looking forward to seeing how our young guns and fringe guys go. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Taaffey, Lachie (Lachie especially as this is the first real look we get at him after a full Pre-Season) and Pete play together in the spine, Jaxson at left centre, Hame and Davvy's explosive front row combo and it'll be cool to see Havilli pull on the Red and Green for the first time as well as seeing how Shaq goes.

Lot's to like about that trial line up and lot's to look forward to. Bring it on!!!

Ilias steps up for Rabbitohs in NRL trial

Troy Whittaker - Yesterday 5:25 pm

Lachlan Ilias will set about making the No.7 jersey his own as South Sydney's post-Adam Reynolds era begins with an NRL trial against North Queensland on Saturday night.

A handful of clubs have named squads ahead of the first batch of official pre-season games this weekend, beginning with Friday night's Sydney Roosters-Canberra and Wests Tigers-Manly double-header at Leichhardt Oval.
In his first match since taking over from Wayne Bennett, Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou has selected nine players with NRL experience to face the Cowboys at Barlow Park in Cairns.
The squad includes Ilias, grand final fullback Blake Taaffe, winger Jaxson Paulo, former Raider Siliva Havili and Shaq Mitchell, who will push for an NRL contract after representing the Indigenous All Stars.
Ilias has only played one first-grade game but is expected to get the first shot at replacing new Brisbane general Reynolds.
Taaffe impressed when deputising at fullback for the suspended Latrell Mitchell last year and is likely to reprise that role for the first two rounds as the NSW Origin star completes his ban.
