NYC finished 9th last season equal on points with 8th. Not a good result but hardly an epic failure, especially considering the talent that left that side after 2013.

Assuming Ciraldo will do poorly because Barret wasnt great is idiotic, wait and see how he goes before you start freaking out.

Bloody hell, can't believe people are giving it to Ciraldo already. If anything, not being the greatest player but continually getting picked by a variety of coaches would be a benefit of a coach? Clearly he trained hard and had a great attitude which hopefully he'll pass it on.

As for the backline. With 3 players missing in Rnd 1 (potentially), Simmons is a cert for a wing spot. Hard to justify he's not in the top 6/7 backline options in our club and is safe as houses compared to Blake/Jennings etc. who do have a few errors in them.

MX Has a point. Why not start a young coach in Ball or Matts 1st?

Development of those kids is just as important, why not send him to coach local footy first?

Edit: None of us can answer for the thought process behind hiring Ciraldo, if you can't take it on faith that Gould has done his due diligence before making this decision then that would be your problem imo considering Gould has been making good decision most of the time. I doubt he has just hired Ciraldo on a whim.

That too. I was thinking more the shorter seasons getting 1st pick of the players each week etc.

It seems they see NSW Cup as the better development grade with NYC the lesser players. In that situation who better then an average guy to coach and pass on who's worth keeping as an average player. Like with Jennings last season I'd rather a young star coming through play under Brennan. Though that said I don't think we have lost a trial yet in NYC

I dont think they are leaving it just upt to the NYC or NSW cup coach to develop these kids. Obviously they would be a part of it but from what I have read and heard Cleary is firmly in charge of player development. Lets not forget that he set up the same structures in all 3 grades when he got here.
