Looks like the Titans are sending most of their first string players to Alice Springs. A couple of ex-Eels in the extended squad, most notably Nathan Davis who might have the inside running on the centre spot vacated by James Roberts.

Reasonable squad. It should give a few fringe players that have impressed in the pre-season the opportunity to further stake their claims given the team assembled by the Gold Coast.

It speaks towards the magnitude of the rebuild we have underdone under BA that we can now say something like that. It wasn't that long ago that other fans were mocking us with the line that NSW Cup teams could dust us up.

Shame that we will only have a clowny radio feed (it is fun but far from informative) and twitter updates to relay the happenings of this game. Will have to wait for the first hand reports to filter through once the squads gets back to Sydney to see how everyone goes.

Surprised Joseph Ualesi not on the list... Is he injured does anyone know?

Unfortunately I believe he is injured. Not sure on how long he is sidelined but it is a real shame as he was putting himself right in the frame for selection.

Hopefully this means we see Schulte at fullback in the wenty trial. That game may also include Hasson, any others can't think of atm.

Eels ’can’t wait’ for rugby league rumble in Alice Springs against Titans at Anzac Oval on Friday

PARRAMATTA Eels have arrived in Alice Springs ready for their rugby league clash with the Gold Coast Titans at Anzac Oval on Saturday evening.

The Eels touched down in the Red Centre on Wednesday afternoon after a successful trip to the Auckland Nines, and key player Tim Mannah said the side was relishing being back in town.

“We love it, we love coming here,” Mannah said.

“It’s a great partnership with the NT Government and the relationship we’ve been able to build the last two years and the exciting thing is that we’ve still got a couple more years to go.”

The Eels will be busy visiting Alice Springs schools on Thursday but Mannah admitted they cannot wait to take to the park for their first trial match in the lead up to the 2016 season.

“The preseason training drags on for a while and it gets to that point now in early February that the boys just want to start playing footy and start letting out some steam so we’re excited about playing and it will be a good little hit out for us to see where we are at.”

Parramatta will take on the Gold Coast Titans at Anzac Oval on Saturday, February 13, at 7.40pm. Tickets on sale now from Intersport Alice Springs, Hot Stuff 4 the Sporting Buff and Sport Power.

The Titans are scheduled to arrive in Alice Springs on Friday morning.

League: Injury-hit Titans scramble to fill squad for Warriors trial clash in Whangarei

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry did not have to wait long to receive a reality check following their NRL Auckland Nines success.

Henry has had to dip deep into the Queensland Cup stocks in order to fill squads for two weekend trials with 11 sidelined due to injury or All Stars duty.

The wooden spoon favourites received a shot of confidence cruising into the Nines semi-finals in Auckland with new recruits Chris McQueen and Agnatius Paasi, earning team of the tournament honours.

But Henry had no time to celebrate as he scrambled to finalise squads for respective Saturday night trials against the Warriors at Whangarei and Nines champions Parramatta at Alice Springs.

NRL forwards Matt Robinson and David Hala will provide much needed experience to the New Zealand-bound squad.

"It has obviously tested our numbers with two trials on the same weekend as the All Stars clash and a few guys unavailable with mostly minor injuries," Henry said.

"We've had to call on some Q Cup players to go to New Zealand with Terry Matterson but it will give us a good guide of how these guys can handle the step up and show us what depth we have."

Henry then has to find another 20 names for the clash against Parramatta, with ex-Test prop David Shillington, Zeb Taia and Leivaha Pulu making their Titans debut, and hooker and former Warrior Nathan Friend making his official return.

Triallists Cameron Cullen, ex-Australian Rugby Sevens star Shannon Walker and budding halfback Ash Taylor also feature in the 23-strong Alice Springs squad.

The Titans' seven-strong injury list includes Kane Elgey (knee), Kierran Moseley (ankle), Karl Lawton (back) and Josh Hoffman (knee).

Greg Bird, Ryan James, Tyrone Roberts, Nene Macdonald will feature in Saturday night's All Stars clash at Suncorp Stadium.

Titans squad to play Warriors at Whangarei (Titans NRL unless noted): Ali Grant (Tweed), Blake Anderson (Tweed), Jarrod Tua (Burleigh), Connor Broadhurst, Tyronne Roberts-Davis (NYC), Jamal Fogarty (Burleigh Heads), Sam Irwin (Tweed), Kurt Bernard (NYC), Pat Politoni (Burleigh), David Hala, Matt Robinson, Morgan Boyle (NYC), Sam Saville (Tweed), Luke Page (Burleigh), Jed Cartwright, Daniel Schwass (Burleigh), Dane Clark (Tweed), Will Bugden (Tweed), Hayden Schwass (Burleigh), Sam Meskell (Tweed).

Titans squad to play Eels at Alice Springs: Will Zillman, David Mead, Brian Kelly, Nathan Davis, Anthony Don, Daniel Mortimer, Ash Taylor, David Shillington, Nathan Friend, Agnatius Paasi, Zeb Taia, Chris McQueen, Lachlan Burr, Matt Srama, Luke Douglas, Eddy Pettybourne, Shane Wright, Jeff Lynch, Greg Leleisiuao, Leivaha Pulu, Cameron Cullen, Leva Li, Shannon Walker.

Wait, Connor Broadhurst is playing for the Titans this season? How did we manage to stuff up the retention of the best player in the game?
