Tries from kicks

what percentage of tries are from kicks now? It’s pretty high. There is just no line breaks anymore.
And it’s not like they are good tries they are just grubbers and variations of the 5th tackle bomb in the red zone.
Something has to be done to creat some attack.

Dogs percentage is like 15% I swear. Last nights 3 tries were a line break, barge over from dummy half & a beautiful pass from Benji to Nick Meaney for a runaway try.

Takes more skill than a barge over from dummy half. If that’s how you are going to score then that’s how you’re going to score.
I’ve never understood the argument against tries from kicks. I’ve seen tries where a team literally knocks the ball on into the opposition’s hands who then just has to fall over the line to score. A try is a try.

Tries should be worth however many metres the ball travelled on that play. For example, Nick Meaney's try on Saturday night should have been worth 85 points or thereabouts... Imagine the creativity you'd see from teams inside their own 20 metre line... It would be f**king awesome....

What if the player faces their own goal line throws the ball in the air and bicycle kicks it overhead for a try?

Knights world score probably 80% of tries from Mitchell Pearce kicks.

Allow that to sink in, assess Pearce’s kicking game credentials, and rate their alternative attacking potency accordingly.

Pretty sure they said in commentary Friday that the Warriors first try was only their 7th from kicks all year.

Granted we'd be near the bottom of the pile and it's just one more statistic we suck at, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as suggested.

It can feel that way sometimes when teams are flat or devoid of attacking spark. It feels like kicks are their only option.

If you take a longitudinal view, every try is the end result of play started by the kick off..

Ergo, every try is from a kick.

My gut feel was that there are less trys from kicks compared to, say, 5 years ago. I thought we went through a period back then when the NRL wanted to curb the amount of trys from kicks by allowing blockers. That, and penalizing teams through 7 tackle sets when kicks went wrong.

Based on those two aspects, i thought there was now enough disincentive to kick

Very much reduced from 2008-2010 era

Although I was for a long time against the 7 tackle set, this has made me come round to it.
Bombs and grubbers have to be a lot more accurate and are a touch easier to defend as a result of the change in placement. The increased risk makes playing through the hands more appealing.

I was wrong - 7 tackle set is a good rule change.
