Ok, so let's all just settle down for a minute and put those razor blades away. We've lost two on the trot, but before that we had won three in a row and were sitting pretty in sixth spot and contemplating the unlikely event of a top four finish.

Now the top four finish is gone and if we're not careful, the top eight finish will go a similar way, but we're still in with a genuine shot at making the finals. So instead of everyone having a pessimistic outlook on the remainder of the season, let's have a realistic one.

We've got seven weeks until the finals and while I acknowledge we're no chance of winning the competition (but then again there are another 11 teams who are no chance as well), but we've still got a reasonably "comfy" run over the remaining rounds.

Round 20 - Cronulla @ Toyota Park
Round 21 - Gold Coast @ Ausgrid
Round 22 - Canberra @ Ausgrid
Round 23 - Warriors @ Mt Smart
Round 24 - Brisbane @ Ausgrid
Round 25 - Canterbury @ ANZ
Round 26 - South Sydney @ Ausgrid

Looking at that run, there are only two teams above us on the ladder (pending Cronulla's result tonight). We're on 20 points at the moment and 30 points will get a ticket to the finals; maybe 28.

It's a marked improvement on our run home last year ...

We should get 8 points?
I'm thinking Gold Coast, Canberra, Canterbury and Soufs.

Not counting on Cronulla away due to our record and the others I believe are a class above -Bris and Warriors (especialy in Auckland).

Probably means a semi in Melbourne or at Brookvale though........

this. if we're lucky. oddly enough Souffs are probably the biggest threat of those four you named.

can't see us beating Warriors, Sharks or Brisbane.

then again I couldn't pick half of our results this year

All this negativity is getting increasingly irritating ...

We were terrible against the Cowboys and were simply just not good enough yesterday and now everyone thinks we're going to lose all our remaining seven games? Please.

Just getting in before someone else did. It was a matter of when, not if.

As for the actual topic at hand, I think we're more than capable of winning five, if not six of the remaining games. A lot depends on Gidley's availability and returning to the #1 jumper though ...

As is your refusal to face the truth that we have an average team who by all rights shouldn't make the finals this year, but if they do for whatever reason will be bundled out in the first week in an inept display that reflects a season full of inept displays.

On the past TWO performances JD i cannot see us winning any more games, call me Mr Emo if u like but i,m looking at it realistically.

i still think we will make the finals and get bundled out in week 1

not sure if that's really something to look forward to though

wouldn't surprise me either if we dropped the game against the Titans or some shit but then beat Warriors in NZ

Cowboys game I'll concede, but I think everyone is underestimating how clinical Manly were yesterday. I don't think we were that bad, just losing two outside backs during the game, which resulted in a halfback playing fullback coupled with losing a tackling workhorse in Hilder before the game didn't help our cause.

as sure as people posting and writing off our season after another terrible display

is that a few here will complain about anyone that does so

im not sure why each and every game needs to be followed by a 'we can make the top 4' or 'we cant make the 8' conversation anyway.

i think we can all agree we are a fringe 8 team. we are a chance of stringing together a few games and scraping in. just as we are a chance of losing a few more than we win and ending up in 10th

but the predictions that follow every game, from the pesimists and the optimists, are really quite pointless and are both as bad as each other

Round 20 - Cronulla @ Toyota Park - No
Round 21 - Gold Coast @ Ausgrid - 50/50
Round 22 - Canberra @ Ausgrid- Yes
Round 23 - Warriors @ Mt Smart - No
Round 24 - Brisbane @ Ausgrid - No
Round 25 - Canterbury @ ANZ - Yes
Round 26 - South Sydney @ Ausgrid -Yes
I reckon we can win 3 of those, realistically we should beat the Titans, but would not be surprised if the Titans got the win

One thing in our favour this week is that we'll have a head start in terms of preparation over the Sharks and they also may well suffer a let-down after getting themselves up for their game tonight.

We will make the finals and get bundled out week one. Our team simply does not possess the class of the Broncos, Storm, Manly, Dragons or Cowboys (when Thurston returns). Those 5 teams boast superior forward packs and spines in comparison to our team. Hasler, Bellamy and Bennett are much better positioned to guide their squads to grand final glory because they have been there before.

If you want to call that "emo", go ahead. I'm just calling it how I see it.

Having Tui back will be a major boost. I'm gonna put money on Tui, Faas, Ak and Costigan to be our best player for the remainder of the season. On that platform, Mullen's kicking, Stig's good form and Aku's Godness, we should win our next 7 games straight.

Hope we don't get Melbourne because the other 3 teams I think we can beat. Manly and Brisbane we either put in terrific efforts or lose by 60. We gave St George and run for their money this year (both games) and everyone will be out to impress Mr Bennett. We always lose to the Storm by a couple of points.

Good luck boys!

who the f**k knows who will win which games. it's going to take a few ambushes to get us wins, most of our wins this year have come from us dragging the opposition down to our level, rather than dazzling them with finesse... and that won't change this year. teams that turn up with the right attitude to deal with us and attention to detail in their prep should put us away... those that underestimate us should get what they deserve, too. our attitude has been pretty good for the most part, the rag-tag bunch of forwards we have are mostly working hard for each other most weeks. our attitude and commitment in defence should see us in most games, i don't expect too many more blowouts like we had on Sunday.

it's basically going to depend on how many more rabbits we can pull out of hats. the fortunate part about this is that a lot of teams are in a similar boat... so really our attitude is what should get us a few more wins. a lot of games this year have simply gone to the team that wanted it the most... attractive footy be damned.
