Turnpike Titans v Boston 13s

The New Jersey Titans travelled up to Boston for their first game in the USARL. The Boston 13s were strongly tipped to make light work of the Titans but this was not the case as the Titans side were well drilled and were in control of the game from the first minute through to the last minute. Not many expected the NJ Titans to sit proudly at the top of the table after round 1 but that is where they sit for the time being.

The well-organized Titans captained by Joe “Too Tall” Granick looked unstoppable with first half tries from Moey Alhaje, Stu Harvey, and Justin Driesse. Conversions were kicked through the posts by Alhaje, Harvey, and Mark Rusinski. This put the Titans in control of the game with a half time score of 26-10. The Boston 13s never gave up and made the Titans work hard for their points. The Titans forwards really dominated in offence and stuck to the game plan throughout the first half. Coach Stuart Harvey was very impressed with the attitude, commitment and effort from the lads with Australian import Moey really showing his class with support from forwards Kirkland Hamilton, Pat Delaney, and Napolean Lopez. Half back Mark Rusinski worked very hard in all aspects of the game and was a major player on the night for the Titans. Moey and Rusinski teaming up in the midfield area directing the huge pack around the field set up the side for their lead that they never looked like losing. The experienced Chris Paul led the pack from lock and his experience played a vital part in the game.

The second half was much closer with the Titans coming up 10-6 winners with second half tries from Harvey (1) and Paul (1). Only 1 conversion was made, that of which coming from Harvey. Boston started to throw the ball around in the second half and the Titans went away from their game plan. The Titans maybe lacked some big game experience and should have really fed off of their first half performance to keep the pressure on the Boston side. Boston lost a player to injury early in the second half with the player being taken by ambulance to hospital after a huge hit from the Titans forwards Jim Roblin and Lamar Murray. We hope the player is ok and on the mend.

English coach Stuart Harvey said after the game, "We always knew we were going to give the 13's a game and from the first minute I was confident in bringing the points back to New Jersey. The young lads have shown in training that they are committed to the Titans and the sessions leading up to the Boston game were superb and the attitude from the boys was 100%. We will enjoy the win but we will put this game behind us and start to prepare for a difficult game next week against the Washington DC Slayers. We have to really improve on this week’s performance and we will go into the game as underdogs again and this will suit us. Washington Slayers will be fancied by many next week and with their Australian imports all playing so well at the weekend this will be a difficult game for our young squad." Man of the match for this past weekend goes to Moey Alhaje for helping the Titans jump out to a big early lead.

Next Game - Home Versus Washington DC SLayers

The Titans will be at full strength next week with Australian import Alhaje likely to continue in the halfs with Rusinski. Coach Harvey looks set to start at hooker whilst the Titans welcome back Kenyan Chris Otundo back at lock. The back line for the Titans will remain unchanged if training goes as planned this week. There will be a few selection headaches for the coach in the forwards after the big guns performed so well at the weekend.

Good report.
It's nice to see a bit of biographical detail in the reports, but i'd rather see more about the Americans than the Aussies - especially any who didn't come from Union.
