Pubs that show the away games that I know of for certain:

The Vaucluse Hotel, Richmond
The Rifle Club Hotel, Williamstown

i was in Melbourne last year the day after state of origin 2, as a sales rep who sells to pubs I was astonished out of the 12 pubs i visited the next day the majority had imparja still on a TV screen, The cards are not what you call legal, but heaps of Melbourne pubs have them, they just slide them into Fox or Sky boxes and it works.

Watching Origin (live) in Melbourne - there are options:

1. Charles Dickens in Collins St, CBD. Gets packed though.
2. The Swan, Richmond - plenty of screens and sound turned up (which helps)
3. Rising Sun Hotel, Richmond - Favourite hang out for Storm fans (and players and coaching staff too!)

Isn't Imparja a free to air channel?

I've just had a call from a publican in Melbourne who says he having all sorts of trouble of getting the State of Origin live on his screens.
He says that some other larger places, such as the Crown Casino have the game live but when he telephoned the NRL to ask if he could get it, they simply said, "It can't be done."

Now this guy isnt asking for a freebie. He is willing to pay for the coverage. He has all the satellite and cable in place and wants to get rugby league in his pub for his patrons.

Its especially frustrating when we know the game is being televised live to NZ, the UK, PNG and even Vanuatu... but not Melbourne.

Does anyone know of any pubs in Melbourne where the League fans can watch the greatest game of all?

Its an absolute disgrace that live NRL games cannot be televised in Melbourne and yet I can watch live games here in Indonesia.

It is un-Australian and Channel 9 had better have a long look at themselves and in one word all I can say is that its - shameful

I just moved to Melbourne so this will be a useful thread, thanks everyone.
I watched the first round at 'The Village Belle' in St Kilda. It was before the AFL season started but the bartender said they usually make sure they have at least one tv for the S14 and one for the NRL.
Its a normal pub too, which is nice.
It seems 95% of bars in Melbourne are wierdo, trendy, theme bars. It was great to find a place where you could just sit with normal people and watch footy.
