Were tv ratings for league matches in New Zealand a lot higher when they were on FTA over there before being moved to SkyTV? I'm curious to know the difference (if any) between the ratings on both of them.
it was reported that the GF in 02 was the highest rating sports program ever, over a million viewers... since then the ratings have been going down hill.. did ok when it was on Sky "box" channel which was part of the basic sky subscription.. But since sky bought Prime as their FTA channel they moved it to Sky sport 2, which is only on the digital service the ratings have stayed around the same... normal games rate 140- 200 k and the Warriors games rate 180 - 240K ... SOO and GF this year only rated 200 odd k each.... the delayed games on Prime didnt rate high enough to be recorded on Throng.Does anyone know how the Warriors rated when they made the GF in 2002?
Also, I'm pretty sure I read an article somewhere (written in 1991) about the Winfield Cup and how State of Origin got about a million viewers in NZ (in the days before the Warriors were in the ARL) and how the Friday Night Football ratings were also very high as well. I don't know if this is another I'm thinking of, but I'm interested to know how much the Warriors TV ratings have increased/decreased since they inception into the comp in 1995.
Wont happen... last report was SKY paid 8 mill, tho ray Masters insists it was 12 Mill... no FTA channel will pay that much for sport where their only source of revenue is "add money"... ratings dont justify it.Wonder if NZ FTA will bid for 2013? Surprised it isn't on FTA tbh. How wealthy are the NZ FTA channels?

When there was still analogue sky you only got sport1... but as its all digital, if you have sport with the basic package you get all 5 sport channels... so it makes no difference if its on sport 1 or 2.... the damage was done during the time analogue was still available where sport 1 was available but 2 wasnt...So is Sky Sport 2 a channel you have to pay extra for or is it part of the basic package?
I mean - would the warriors benefit from being on Sky Sports 1 with Union? Not sure how it would clash with Super 15 etc.
You'd hope that they could get the Friday, Sunday and Warriors games all on basic pay TV.

And the clashes with Super 15, NPC, test match Rugby is why its on sport 2.
The league has been on Sport2 live and prime delayed for about 3 years... the problem is that the old analogue sky cost $50-60 a month (which included Warriors games), digital costs $53.00 for basic package... another $20.00 for movie channels... then finally $19 for the sport channels... if you believe that League is primarily a working class supported game then you can see why ratings are static... its not cheap for a working class family to get. Thanks for clarifying that. How long was Sky Sports 2 unavailable for?
