Two Referees

Bit of trivia regarding two referees for those interested, I came across a trial game between Manly and Canterbury in 1987 where the NSWRL trialled a second referee. This was before the digital age obviously, the second referee would carry a flag and mark the 5 metres in defence waving it when an infringement occurred. It was received well but considered too late to implement in the regular season.

Two refs better than 1, just split the roles n responsibilities.

Thats why you get rid of 6 again for the 10m

One ref calls 6 again for ruck infringements

The other manages the 10m, foul play etc and awards penalties

I personally would like us to revert back to 5m defensive line with the old 5m in attack where everyone other than the dummy half needs to be 5m behind the play the ball

Biggest fallacy that come out of that whole thing. Refs didn't take a pay cut and referee squad stayed at 22. Saved NRL zilch

Yea but you only have to pay off one ref to get the result you want. Much cheaper now.
