U.K Office vs U.S Office

I must admit, I've become a big fan of both series. Before everyone unleashes their predictable hatred of the U.S series, you gotta agree that they're completely different shows now. The U.k series has GREAT originality and owns its own culture of humour. Ricky Gervais does a fantastic job with his character and his establishment of various other personalities in the office.

The U.S series piloted its first episode as an exact word by word replica of the U.k episode, which might be the reason so many people were originally turned off the series. I've found after watching a few seasons that the shows are quite seperate and have their own qualities. The U.S version really plays on character development, and yes it does use a 'mainstream' sense of humour however it comes with its own quirks. They also have some great writers and producers with big reputations for moulding shows into classics, eg Greg Daniels.

My point is, I think they're both fantastic in their own ways, I just feel the U.S series shouldn't just be regarded as a over-budgeted rip off.

Too hard to choose which is actually best. I have just purchased all 4 Seasons US Office and am about to watch the last few episodes of Season 4.

I don't even compare the two any more, it's like they are two completely different shows.

Dwight Schrute is GOD
Absolutely.

On you tube David Brent has a series of Microsoft Motivation Lectures. Funny Stuff.

I think they are both great, though in very different ways.

The US is very much a typical, though above average, sitcom whereas the UK is typical understated humour.

Absolutely love Dwight, and some of the pranks Jim plays on him are brilliant. I constantly p!ss myself whenever I see Dwights worrying discovery with the Gaydar.

On the other side of the ledger David Brent is a far better character to Michael Scott imo. Brent was believeable, Scott is a characature.

Love both shows. I think those that can't get past the UK version probably never bothered to watch the US version past the first season which really was trying to mimic the original show. From season 2 onwards the US version got it's own identity.

I'd say David Brent's character far exceeds Michael Scott. Though Jim, Pam and Dwight all far exceed their UK version characters and the US version has done far more into developing a whole series of extra characters which gets it the nod IMO.

IN the first season when the US version was just a straight copy of the UK the UK version was miles ahead.
Once the US version started developing it's own original material, it turned into a good show in it's own right, although quite different to the UK version.

Only really have watched the US version, have to agree on both Dwight and Creed haha... i also love the interplay between all the characters, as in you feel that none of them are wasted and they all add to the fabric of the show.

I'm surprised more people have not leapt to defend the uk version with blind vehemence. Whenever I talk to people about the US version they roll their eyes and assume its trash because its not the uk version, and half of them haven't watched more than 1 or 2 eps. Dwight is so good, yet these people are missing out. I try to explain that yes I like both shows, and that both are different versions of a simialar premise. I concede gervais is bettter than carell and I TRY to explain that Dwight far exceeds gareth, but as soon as I praise the us version the eyes start a rollin again. They are missing out big time, and they wont even try it some of them.

Basically how I see it. I think I would tend to prefer the UK one simply because I am more familiar with it, but the US one is still f**kin' good.

UK one easily for me, can't think of a single version of a character in the US one that I prefer. I liked season 2 of the US version though. With the current season and the stupid Jim/Pam relationship I'm close to flagging the downloads.

Entourage and Californication are way better US shows ;-)
