UAI relevance in casual sales

i went to an interview today for a casual sales assistant and the guy asked me what my UAI was.

i think it is highly irrelevant and i thought he was rude for asking. it's none of his business what mark i got or what school i went to or why i got a scholarship to uni.

is this just me?

Yes it is just you.. He just wanted to know how you went at school, it could be the difference between getting the job and someone else getting the job.. I don't think it is that big a deal really, all my school marks are in my portfolio i take to interviews.

I think employers just use a UAI as an overall mark, which is technically incorrect.

Won't worry me though, I never got one.

halfy i didn't realise you set the standard for 'most people'

I agree they shouldn't be asking for your UAI - wanting to know your HSC marks is one thing but the UAI is not supposed to be used in that way. Problem is a lot of people do see it as some sort of an IQ test which it isn't.

Hindy looks like the dude from Sliders in that pic...

They usually ask leavers for their UAI. I've never actually applied for a job in my life though, so I'm only basing this on other peoples experiences (One of the few things a closely knit extended family is good for is Casual Employment).

Why are you worried about divulging your UAI if you got 90+? Hell, You produce a UAI of 80 and you've probably trumped the other applicants...

Because I only did 8 Board Endorsed Units. The other 2 units I did was SLR.

If I had it would have been low 60's me thinks.

I don't know - I don't normally give out my UAI (not that anyone would ask now but I didn't when it was still likely) as I don't think its relevant.

To be honest now a few years on I don't even remember what it WAS exactly...an older friend of mine told me that would happen but I didn't believe her, you spend so long obsessing over it to realise it really means nothing at all

I can barely Remember mine after 4 months. I got a score adequate enough to get into my course, and that was all that mattered.

oi! ssshhhhh

its not what i actually got its the point that he asked
i just hope he doesnt use that against me cuz most ppl wouldnt hire someone with a UAI of 90+ if they simply want someone for casual sales
i just dont think its at all relevant

t-ba which selective did you go to buddy?
doesnt it shit you when all the brains are crying over their "low" marks when their lowest mark is like 5 marks higher than your highest??! :roll:

Earl didn't get one because he didn't do enough board approved units. Boo-urns :lol:

I went to Sydney Boys High. I'm so happy I'm away from that pathetic rank system that everyone went crazy about in year 11 and 12.

The System is wrong. most of the really high achievers in my school lack the inter-personal skills to be succesful in any field other than R & D, and a few others will end up being academic kooks.

The system is also wrong because people with;
A) Good maths skills, or;
B) Naturally excellent Essay writing skills ( :lol: :D )

Can pull a 90+ out of their a*ses without working at all.

Before I got my UAI I seriosuly thought I would get a 70.

Essay skills are what got me through high school. I Probably would have become a labourer when I was 15 if it weren't for those :lol:
