If Aku was playing for the Storm, Broncos or Cowboys, he'd have scored 40 tried already.

I only have a couple of criticisms about Aku... namely that he still doesn't back himself 100% to:

a) catch a high ball
b) run around a guy instead of through him

i'd really love to see him master these 2 things.

Great post ditto from me.

He is marked much more heavily then years past. Defences train all week to slide quickly to cover that side of our attack.

Next time you watch one of our games watch how McManus opposite winger/centre combo will slide but still show him the sideline (sometimes a good 5-10 metres of it) when defending him and Tahu. Then watch Uates opposite - Complete rush in sliding leaving him 50cm of space.

Teams are prepared to go all out shutting him down and we are simply not good enough to utilize the space this opens up in other parts of the field - eg a quick switch or inside runners etc.

I really don't think Uate is the problem. And certainly not the main one.

The fact we have forgotten to attack starts with many more people inside him.

There is going to be a fair bit of competition for the two wing spots - two Morris boys, Stewart, Hayne, Dugan, Uate to go into 3 positions. Of course Aku is going to be picked being a current Kangaroo, but there is a fair bit of form and a fair few points being scored in that list and Aku isn't really at the top of it...

But of course there is a great deal of bias around here. Making mocking comments with no substance behind them indicates that...

Personally I wouldn't care if Aku isn't picked. Whoever is picked will be cannon fodder and we need wins on the board.

The amount of games J Morris has played away from centre can be counted on one hand, so how he figures in this discussion is a mystery when you consider the current state of NSW centres.

Sure Dugan or Stewart could be picked at fullback, but that of itself doesn't preclude Uate being in the side.

So that leaves just Hayne and B Morris.

B Morris is playing well this season at fullback, but his Origin career is fairly lackluster.

G T TA LB TB MT E AVG
Morris 5 0 0 1 6 5 6 69m
Uate 3 1 1 2 16 1 1 131m

Errors and missed tackles are killers at Origin level, as are outside backs who can't make ground out of your own half.

If picked Hayne will do a job at wing, centre or fullback. Whether he is the best option at fullback or centre remains to be seen, but he is a head above Morris if he is considered for the wing spot.

As for Morris, he should be consigned to the Williams/Turner/McManus level of "Break glass in case of emergency". Good club player, not first choice for his State, hell there is a guy on a Mormon mission I would have ahead of him.

Uate has been going well this year. Nothing spectacular, but as was said above, all his performances have been between good and great. An encouraging thing to see, particularly last week, is his improvement in decision making in defence, that part of his game required some work and it looks like he has taken it on well.

I think Stuart can work out our centres are rubbish on his own. Like i said before, Aku is like nukes without the launch codes given his inside lefts are Sau and a disappointing Wes. He is used to early ball from Doogs.

I would also point the finger at our right sided back rower. They are not running the right lines or something, because the defence doesnt even seem to be concerned with that runner.

The left is a different story, Taia is taking up a defender, and putting doubt in the outside man, thus creating space for T and Jim.

It is literally our right sided attack as a whole. It is not clicking.

That's Houston I think Tim

Yeah definitely the guys on the left (Taia and Tahu in particular) are doing well, creating a lot of opportunities.

House and McKinnon from recollection.

Whatever they are doing, the defense doesnt respect it.

I am House's biggest fan (just ask my wife) but I think he isnt having a positive effect on the right side.

I would like to see him and Nev swap.

House to lock and the middle, Nev to the right side. We know Nev has the skills to pop an offload and put guys in space (much like Taia) I just dont know if he can do it on the right, as I only recall such moves from him on the left.

House is a hindrance in attack. The quantity is good but he is easy to tackle and can't pass, step, offload or go over a defender.

Brilliant player, but has to move to lock soon.... We need a backrower to aim up on the right though
