UB40 and crappy reggae covers

of all the bands i hate - and there are many

none annoy me more than these boring cover whores

everything sounds like a casio keyboard backed by a white guy trying to sound like a jamaican

my question is

is there ever a band that had so much success as this who just regurgitate someone elses stuff?

Never much liked UB40. Admittedly I don't know much of their stuff.. but all of those pseudo-reggae-ska bands from Britain are all a bit wrong.

But like Robert Palmer and Simple Minds and Human league there was a time when UB40 didn't suck as much.

Ub40 did "One in ten' which wasnt too bad, but the later stuff was pure unadulterated pap.

UB40 were not a cover band.

They evolved as the Brittish verion of reggae, ska, became popular back in the late 70s.

Other bands like the Specials, and to a lesser extent, Madness, were very big in England, as there is a lot of expat west indies in pommy land.

Of late UB40, as all bands do at the end of thier career, became very middle of the road, commercial, and very boring, in an attempt to squeeze extra money out of the top 40 singles market, as you stated Millers.

But when they first started out I thought they wern't bad.

then the vomit inducing sonny and cher cover i got you babe

then lorna bennets breakfast in bed

then quite amazingly an african song they did a version of called "sing our own song"!!! :lol:

then the chi lites lonely girl

then Lord creators kingston town

then the temptations the way you do the things you do

then a sickening version of elvis's cant help falling in love with you

when they did finally did an original they got sued by a poet called debbie banks and had to give her the money

Nope they were crap well before then. Being Boiled and Empire State Human were the only good things about HL that i remember. But how good were they!

UB40's 1 in ten was good, everything else - rubbish.

Robert Palmer was interesting around Johnny and Mary , and the You're In My System was great, but never going to prepare anyone for the crap he came out with later.

I think that millers' knowledge of UB40 is a bit too deep for someone so unenamoured with their music.

I mean, I don't and never liked n'sync and I couldn't even tell you the name of one song they had.

For the record, I never minded UB40.

I don't give a stuff if a band is a cover band, unoriginal, gay, straight, dyslexic, punk, shite or whatever. If I listen to them and like it, great. If I don't like it, I don't listen to it.
